Liam Neeson has signed on to Peter Berg’s adaptation of the popular Hasbro board game Battleship. Deadline reports that Neeson will play “Admiral Shane, the Naval officer whose daughter (played by Brooklyn Decker) is engaged to a young naval officer played by Taylor Kitsch.” As we previously reported, Kitsch plays Commander Alex Hopper who is described as “wildly spirited” and “a great seaman but a lousy politician.” The film also stars Rihanna as Kitsch’s crewmate and weapons specialist and Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper’s brother, who is also a naval officer. The plot centers on an international armada that must fend off an alien invasion.
Last week, the first set photos from the film leaked online. You can check them out here and here. Battleship is slated to open on May 18, 2012.
