Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Baywatch. Directed by Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon, the film is an adaptation of the popular 90s TV series of the same name and puts a comedic spin on the lifeguard tale with Dwayne Johnson filling the role of Mitch Buchannon and Zac Efron starring alongside him as Matt Brody.

While Paramount spent years trying to get this Baywatch movie off the ground, with Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant first taking a crack at the script, the take they finally settled on was an R-rated comedy in the vein of 21 Jump Streetand that's very much on display here. There are a couple of in-jokes to the Baywatch brand, but other than that, this very much looks to stand on its own as something of a new take on the IP. As for the comedy, the trailer isn't especially promising, but Johnson and Efron have more than proven their comedic chops in prior films, and I'm eager to see someone like Alexandra Daddarrio—whose versatility ranges from True Detective to the Percy Jackson movies—get to stretch her legs in the comedy realm.

The final screenplay credits go to Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, making their comedy debut after penning the scripts for the Friday the 13th reboot and Freddy vs. Jason, so I'm also curious to see what kind of story they've put together.

Watch the first Baywatch teaser trailer below. The film also stars Priyanka Chopra, Kelly Rohrbach, Jon Bass, Hannibal Buress, and Rob Huebel. Baywatch opens in theaters on May 26, 2017.

Here's the official logline for Baywatch:

BAYWATCH follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.
