CBS Films has released a new trailer for their upcoming film, Beastly.  The film – directed by Daniel Barnz (Phoebe in Wonderland) – is a modern reimagining of Beauty and the Beast, which places the classic tale in a high school setting.  Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number 4) stars as a popular handsome high school student that finds himself turned into a beast, who then has one year to find someone who can love him so that he can reverse the curse.  The film also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Neil Patrick Harris, and Mary-Kate Olsen.  Beastly is set to open on March 18.  You can hit the jump to watch the trailer and check out 21 images:

Here’s the official plot synopsis for Beastly:

Kyle Kingson (Alex Pettyfer) has it all — looks, intelligence, wealth and opportunity — and a wicked cruel streak. Prone to mocking and humiliating “aggressively unattractive” classmates, he zeroes in on Goth classmate Kendra, inviting her to the school’s extravagant environmental bash. Kendra accepts, and, true to form, Kyle blows her off in a particularly savage fashion. She retaliates by casting a spell that physically transforms him into everything he despises. Enraged by his horrible and unrecognizable appearance he confronts Kendra and learns that the only solution to the curse is to find someone that will love him as he is — a task he considers impossible.

Repulsed by his appearance, Kyle s callous father banishes him to Brooklyn with a sympathetic housekeeper (Lisa Gay Hamilton) and blind tutor (Neil Patrick Harris). As Kyle ponders how to overcome the curse and get his old life back, he chances upon a drug addict in the act of killing a threatening dealer. Seizing the opportunity, Kyle promises the addict freedom and safety for his daughter Lindy (Vanessa Hudgens) if she will consent to live in Kyle’s Brooklyn home. Thus begins Kyle’s journey to discover true love in this hyper-modern retelling of the classic ‘Beauty and the Beast’ story.

  1. This trailer was better when it was first released and had Death Cab for Cutie as the background music.

Still, looks like the highlight of 2011….in opposite land.

  3. Dear God, if you are reading this, duh, I have already shot myself in the head with a Smith and Wesson 500 caliber handgun.
This truly is the Justine Bieber generation. I can’t believe some schmuck made that shit.

  5. It’s a recreation of the cutting games that the Japanese and Germans performed on their young MALE victims if they were particularly good looking. The Japanese sliced Chinese eyebrows because their is a Chinese admonishment against winning against an opponent too far by humiliating them described as “shaving their eyebrow.” The japanese also traced the veins in the more translucent skin of their Chinese flaying victims and both the Germans and Japanese fed mercury as well as other inedibles to their healthy young victims. It was FUN.

Does this look fun to you? Does it look like anyone would VOLUNTEER out of poverty for this?

But then how else do you communicate the reality if not hidden in a teen movie?
