BEAUTY AND THE BEAST 3D and Pixar’s NEWT Officially Off Disney’s Release Schedule

When we last reported on Pixar’s Newt, it was the sad news that the project had been canceled.  Now it looks like the project has officially shed the mortal coil as Box Office Mojo reports that Disney has dropped it from the calendar entirely.  Other release date changes include Monsters, Inc. 2 moving from November 16, 2012 to November 2, 2012; the teen comedy Prom is now set for April 29, 2011; and DreamWorks’ The Guardians (tentative title) is moving from November 21, 2012 to November 2, 2012.

The most frustrating change is Beauty and the Beast 3D being pushed from 2011 to completely off the schedule.  The film was originally set to come out this past Valentine’s Day.  Heat Vision reports that the release has been moved to 2012 (or later) so that there will be more 3D TVs in homes when the movie finally hits theaters.  That way, when people see how (presumably) amazing the movie looks in 3D, they’ll buy the 3D Blu-ray when it’s released.  Thankfully, fans will get to see a (presumably) gorgeous HD transfer of the movie when the film hits Blu-ray this October.

You got it backwards, Guardians from 11/2 to 11/21.

Aw man, not again. I've been really looking forward to seeing how the 3D would look on Beauty and the Beast. If Disney really is waiting for 3D TVs to become more widespread they're going to have a long wait, because until the prices drop significantly and/or there's more incentive to spend all that money than one mediocre DreamWorks Animation movie, most people won't be willing to make the switch.

DAMN DAMN DAMN. I too wanted to see Beauty & the Beast in 3D but I'm not buying a 3DTV. I guess I'll pick up the Blu-ray now. Wasn't going too if I planned to see the 3D version in 2011.

As for Monsters Inc. 2 moving up I am THRILLED! It now opens one day before my 25th birthday! I know what my friends and I are doing!

This is the bad thing when Disney interferes with Pixar, they mess it up.
Newt might be a cool, original idea instead Disney canceled that and added a sequel that we don't need (Monster's Inc. 2).
And I'm still skeptical with 3D so I also think that Beauty and Beast thing is unnecessary.

So does this mean we're getting 3 consecutive years of sequels from Pixar?? Don't get me wrong, I love it…but I hope they have time for something completely original too!

Disney is gonna kill Pixar. Just wait and see…

No more 3D. Please. I was over it back in the '80s, already.

Is the change because they announced that the Twilight movie would be released on the 16th? Is Pixar afraid of a little teen girl power? It's unfortunate because it would have made an epic battle at the box office.

I could care less about Beauty and the Beast in 3D. I already have it on VHS so if it's released in theaters, I'm skipping it.

What makes you think this? Just because Cars 2 and Monsters Inc. 2 are being made? People said that before Toy Story 3 came out, and we know what the general response to that movie has been. Sorry, but after seeing Toy Story 3, there's no way I can doubt Pixar for the time being.

I just saw Beauty and the Beast in 3D – it's been released in NZ cinemas. The 3D worked surprisingly well – it seemed slightly odd at first but I got used to it. The ballroom scene looked amazing!
