The Weinstein Company has released a new Begin Again trailer for Once director John Carney’s upcoming music-centric dramedy.  While the previous trailers have focused on the core relationship between Mark Ruffalo’s washed-out A&R man and Keira Knightley’s undiscovered musician, this new trailer offers a closer look at Knightley and Adam Levine’s characters.  Levine plays Knightley’s ex-boyfriend in the film, a famous musician whose growing stature caused a rift between the two.  The Maroon 5 frontman is actually quite good in the movie, and this trailer offers a preview of his original song “Lost Stars.”

Here’s the official synopsis for Begin Again:

The latest film from writer-director John Carney (ONCE), BEGIN AGAIN is a soul-stirring comedy about what happens when lost souls meet and make beautiful music together. Gretta (Keira Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) are college sweethearts  and songwriting partners who decamp for New York when he lands a deal with a major label. But the trappings of his new-found fame soon tempt Dave to stray, and a reeling, lovelorn Gretta is left on her own. Her world takes a turn for the better when Dan (Mark  Ruffalo), a disgraced record-label exec, stumbles upon her performing on an East Village stage and is immediately captivated by her raw talent. From this chance encounter emerges an enchanting portrait of a mutually transformative collaboration, set to the  soundtrack of a summer in New York City. BEGIN AGAIN is produced and financed by Exclusive Media and produced by Anthony Bregman, Tobin Armbrust and Judd Apatow.

Adam Levine. Great singer, lousy actor. Why do singers have to be in movies?

@disqus_TMwkP3EW0C:disqus What is so wrong with branching out?

My profession is a Sales Director, yet I also create websites on the side, do graphic design on the side and I also do some stand up comedy from time to time.

What is so wrong with perusing a dream? a job? a pay-check?

Were you amazing at your first job right out the gate? Probably not. If someone offered you a promotion or a chance to do something you’ve dreamed of doing, would you not do it?

Adam has had great success in Music. He has an even bigger & wider fan base because of how he is on The Voice. Now an opportunity has been given to him, and he’s taking it. What’s wrong with that?

Why don’t you think before posting. You don’t need to respect him or what he does, but don’t knock a person for trying. He may not be a “great” actor out of the gate.. but most people with very little acting training are. Same with Justin Timberlake. He gets progressively better as he takes on more roles. He’s still no Denzel, and may never be.. but at least he’s giving it a try.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. There are dozens of examples of singers who have been successful actors, like Barbra Streisand or Frank Sinatra. But I think that if is a much safer bet for Adam to stay in the profession he’s in. I think he’s a very talented singer with an extremely unique underrated voice. He certainly was the standout judge in The Voice, and who knows, maybe he will surprise all of us one day and get a really nice meaty dramatic role. But I don’t think I’ve seen anything that he was in where it was necessarily good.

The writer of this article says that he thinks Levine was good in this film. Wait and see it.

I will. I could be completely wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time. Years ago, I said Matthew McConaughey would never amount to anything, and today, he has an Oscar. You never know.
