Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has nabbed domestic distribution rights to Protagonist Pictures’s Bel Ami starring Robert Pattinson, THR reports. The directorial team of Declan Donnellan and Nick Omerod helmed the film from a Rachel Bennette adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s 1885 novel. Bel Ami follows a poverty-stricken ex-soldier Georges Duroy (Pattinson), who climbs the social ranks in the late 19th century’s Parisian le bon ton by manipulating a series of influential mistresses. The film also stars Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient) and Christina Ricci. Bel Ami, executive produced by Simon Fuller, will open overseas at the end of February 2012.
