Last week we saw a number of trailers and images for all of the networks’ new series that will debut this fall, but one was curiously left out: NBC’s Believe.  The series’ trailer has now landed online, and the story centers on a wrongfully-imprisoned death row inmate who is broken out of jail in order to protect a young girl with powerful abilities.  The pilot was written and directed by Alfonso Cuaron, who also executive produces the series alongside J.J. Abrams.  Unsurprisingly this trailer makes Believe look very promising, and I’m really looking forward to seeing more from the show in the near future.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The series stars Johnny Sequoyah, Delroy Lindo, and Kyle MacLachlanBelieve will premiere on NBC midseason, so don’t expect it on the airwaves until sometime after the new year.

Levitation, telekinesis, the ability to control nature, even predict the future… Since she was two years old, Bo has had gifts she could neither fully understand, nor control. Raised by a small group known as the “True Believers,” the orphaned girl has been safeguarded from harmful outsiders who would use her forces for personal gain. But now that she is 10, her powers have become stronger, and the threat has grown more dangerous.

With her life and future now in jeopardy, the “Believers” turn to the only person they see fit to be her full-time protector. That is, once they break him out of jail. Tate, a wrongfully imprisoned death row inmate who’s lost his will, is initially reluctant – until he witnesses one of her extraordinary abilities. Bo sees people for who they truly are… and who they may become.

Tate and Bo begin their journey, one in which trust must be earned. Traveling from city to city, every place they stop and everyone they meet will be changed forever. But they’ll have to keep going to stay one step ahead of the sinister forces after Bo’s power…because it will take a miracle to keep them safe forever. The powers of a young girl may hold the fate of our world in Believe, from executive producer J.J. Abrams (RevolutionStar Trek: Into Darkness) and executive producer/writer/director; Alfonso Cuarón (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanChildren of Men).

So vague, looks terrible. What to expect from the 4th place network.

    “powerful abilities”.

OK, the trailer wouldn’t work for me. But just want to say I’m so tired of TV shows and films based upon characters with “powerful abilities” that are beyond reasonable science or realism. I lost interest in that kind of far-fetched comic/fantasy hero stuff when I was about 10 years old, and I’m amazed that any adults still have time for it.

I think we need more proper science fiction type TV shows that are grounded in more believable ideas, where human beings have their abilities extended by technology. Not just genetic flights of fancy.

Reminds me A LOT of Touch – which after 2 seasons was just cancelled by FOX. We’ll see.
