Ben Affleck is still haunted by Daredevil. Even as the actor was cast as the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Internet lit up with references to the superhero movie that bombed. Fortunately, he has a Best Picture Oscar under his belt for Argo and he can laugh about it now. He did that in a 45-minute conversation for TimesTalks, even though he says he hates the film.

“Part of it was I wanted for once to get one of these movies and do it right — to do a good version,” he said of why he wanted to play Batman. He then admitted, “I hate Daredevil so much.” He also applauded Netflix’s Daredevil, which was greenlit for a third season not too long ago. “The Netflix show does really cool stuff,” he said. “I feel like that was there for us to do with that character, and we never kind of got it right. I wanted to do one of those movies and sort of get it right.”

The original film also featured Jennifer Garner as Elektra (played by Elodie Yung for Netflix), Colin Farrell as Bullseye, and Jon Favreau as Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson for Netflix), Ellen Pompeo as Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll for Netflix), and Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio for Netflix).

The movie he thought would get it right was Batman v Superman, Zack Snyder’s latest addition to the DC Extended Universe that was largely dragged over concrete by critics to a 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. Perhaps he’ll have better luck with Justice League, out in theaters next November 17, or his solo Batman film, which was recently placed into the release schedule before Justice League — Part Two
