Saturday Night Live is closing out their 2012-2013 season strong, bringing back three SNL veterans to host.  Previously announced for the May 4th show was Zach Galifianakis, who has The Hangover Part III coming out next month as well.  Galifianakis has hosted SNL before, and I can only hope he brings out his chops singing Annie again.  SNL has had plenty of opening monologues that involved singing this year, but I can’t help but think that Galifianakis is going to have a stand out one regardless.  The musical guest will be Of Monsters and Men.  Hit the jump for more on the episodes hosted by Kristen Wiig and Ben Affleck.

ben-affleck-saturday-night-liveFormer SNL cast member Kristen Wiig, who left the show after seven seasons last year, will be returning to host on May 11th with musical guest Vampire Weekend.  Wiig had an amazing standout career with SNL, more often than not being the only prominent female performer in the main cast.  Prior female cast members like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph often make fantastic hosts, so I have the highest of hopes for her.  Some people may be grumbling at the thought of Wiig wheelhouse characters such as Gilly and Penelope returning, but you can’t knock a talented throwback.

Ben Affleck will round out the season, hosting the May 18th season finale with the always lovable Kanye West as the musical guest.  Affleck has hosted five times before.  The actor/director is definitely more known for his dramatic film career, especially with his recent Best Picture win for Argo, but I’m excited to see him stretch his comedic chops as well.  I can only hope he calls up friend and collaborator Matt Damon to pop in as well.

Here’s the full press release:

NEW YORK – April 26, 2013 – Zach Galifianakis returns to SNL for his third appearance as host. Galifianakis can next be seen in the highly anticipated “The Hangover Part III,” which hits theaters on May 24. Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men make their SNL debut. The band scored a Billboard Music Award nomination for Top Rock Album for “My Head Is an Animal,” and their platinum selling debut single “Little Talks” has topped the Billboard Alternative Chart.

Former cast member Kristen Wiig makes her hosting debut on May 11. The four-time Emmy nominated actress and Oscar nominated screenwriter appears in a string of upcoming films including “Girl Most Likely,” “Despicable Me 2,” “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” and “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” Joining Wiig is Vampire Weekend, returning to the SNL stage for their third appearance as musical guest. The Grammy nominated band’s upcoming album, “Modern Vampires of the City,” is set for a May 14 release.

Closing out the SNL season for his fifth time as host, Ben Affleck’s most recent directorial effort, “Argo,” won Best Picture at the 2013 Academy Awards and he can next be seen in “Runner Runner.” Kanye West also makes his fifth appearance as SNL’s musical guest. The 21-time Grammy Award winner’s newest album will be released later this year.

“Saturday Night Live” is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels.
