First up, Sherlock and Star Trek 2 star Benedict Cumberbatch has joined director John Wells’ (ER, The Company Men) adaptation of the Tony Award-winning play August: Osage County.  The film “centers on the women of a family whose lives have splintered in many directions until a crisis brings them back to their childhood home and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.”  Meryl Streep plays the family’s matriarch, and THR reports that Cumberbatch will play the “sensitive son” of Streep’s sister, who is played by swell character actor Margo Martindale.

The stacked cast also includes Julia Roberts and Chris Cooper.  Cumberbatch recently wrapped Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years a Slave and plays the dragon Smaug in The Hobbit.  Production on August: Osage County will get underway in September in Oklahoma.

Additionally, The Killing star Mireille Enos has joined the cast of David Ayer’s (Harsh Times) thriller Ten.  The film follows a group of DEA agents who pull off a heist, but then start dying one-by-one.  Deadline reports that Enos will play a member of the elite DEA team, and she’s also married to the character played by Sam Worthington.  The actress is currently filming the West Memphis Three drama Devil’s Knot with Reese Witherspoon and will be seen next summer opposite Brad Pitt in the zombie pic World War Z.

Finally, Peter Berg has cast Alexander Ludwig for the role of Navy SEAL Shane Patton in the adaptation of Marcus Luttrell’s book Lone Survivor, per Deadline.  The film tells the harrowing story of a Navy SEAL team’s fight to stay alive during a Taliban ambush in the midst of their 2005 mission to kill a terrorist leader in Afghanistan.  Ludwig joins a cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, and possibly Eric Bana.
