It’s been a big week for Doctor Strange, the long-awaited Marvel adaptation starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Rachel McAdams, considering the amount of set photos that have been trickling in of Cumberbatch shooting in Nepal. Now comes our first glance of Cumberbatch in action in Nepal, thanks to some footage from the set that features Cumberbatch in character and, for extra kicks, director Scott Derrickson setting up a series of shots for the film.
Check out the footage from the Nepal set of Doctor Strange:
Some writers have suggested that the hooded figure that is seemingly following Strange around is Tilda Swinton‘s character, The Ancient One, who gives Strange his powers eventually. But who knows? The inclusion of Michael Stuhlbarg to the cast – news that we reported earlier this week – has opened up the film even more, and though there’s been some rumors of what the actual story could be, nothing concrete has been announced by the studios or by the cast beyond a few character names and assumed backstories.
There’s not much more to be gleaned from the footage, but the fact that this cast, which also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mads Mikkelsen,is so heavy with talent says quite a lot about what kind of movie Doctor Strange will end up being. And then there’s also the fact that the film is being helmed by Derrickson, who did some superb work on Sinister, one of the best horror films of the recent years. The film is now currently looking to be finished early next year for a November 4th, 2016 release date, making this the most anticipated Marvel film currently on the docket, and yes, I’m putting it above all this Civil War nonsense that’s going on. Regardless, bearded Cumberbatch walking around Nepal is enough of a sign that things are off to a healthy start for the film. Now, to wait.
