Halloween is nearly here, but at Comic-Con, you don’t need an excuse to dress up as your favorite character. Case in point: New York City Comic-Con this past weekend was absolutely packed with impressive cosplay. Fans from all over the world not only wanted to attend NYCC, they wanted to express their fandom by dressing up in unique costumes that celebrated characters both massively popular and refreshingly niche. Everywhere you looked there were wildly different costumes: characters from TV shows, feature films, comic books, you name it—there were even folks dressed up as characters we haven’t even met yet, with Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn and Jared Leto‘s Joker from 2016’s Suicide Squad making for a popular duo.
While I was on the convention floor, I made a point to snap as many pictures of cosplay as possible. The result is over 250 images that range from impressive to unique to straight up weird. You’ll find regulars like Bane, Batman, and Superman in this gallery, but also more off-beat choices like Bert & Ernie or Rick and Morty. And yes, there’s plenty of Mad Max: Fury Road cosplay as well. Halloween may be right around the corner, but the major Comic-Con conventions are now over until next summer, so enjoy this last look while fans set about crafting their ideas for next year‘s conventions.
