FX has released the full Season 1 trailer for the upcoming comedy series Better Things. The show hails from Pamela Adlon and Louis C.K. and stars Adlon as a single mother and working actor trying to earn a living and navigate the lives of her three daughters at the same time. Adlon was a standout on C.K.’s groundbreaking FX series Louie, and she seems a natural to headline a comedy show of her own. Beyond the fact that Adlon starred on Louie, the comparisons to C.K.’s series are apt judging by this trailer, as this very much looks to be a single-parent comedy with that signature mix of frankness and hilarity, albeit maybe without Louie’s surreal shadings.

FX has been on a roll lately with the superb The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and its long-running drama series The Americans finally scoring a Best Drama Series Emmy nod, but the network’s comedy offerings have always been ambitious as well. Here’s hoping Better Things lives up to the promise of this trailer.

Watch the Better Things trailer below. Adlon serves as executive producer of the series alongside Louis C.K., M. Blair Breard, and Dave Becky. The series also stars Mikey Madison, Hannah Alligood, Olivia Edward, and Celia Imrie and debuts on FX on Septmeber 8th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Better Things:

Better Things centers on Sam Fox (Pamela Adlon), a single, working actor with no filter raising her three daughters, Max (Mikey Madison), Frankie (Hannah Alligood) and Duke (Olivia Edward) in Los Angeles. She’s mom, dad, referee and the cops. Sam also watches out for her mother, Phil (Celia Imrie), an English expatriate, who lives across the street. Sam is flawed and fierce with her love for her daughters, and her own mother, as well. Sometimes, heaping the love on when she feels guilty. Sam’s just trying to earn a living, navigate her daughters’ lives, have fun with a friend or two and also — just maybe — squeeze in some private time once in a while.
