Roadside Attractions has released the first Beyond the Reach trailer for the thriller in which Michael Douglas hunts a human being, as one does. Based on the book Deathwatch by Robb White (which I just now remembered I read in middle school—weird), Douglas stars as a high-rolling corporate shark who goes on a hunting trip with an impoverished young guide (Jeremy Irvine). After an unfortunate accident, Douglas’ character decides that the only way to come out of the desert intact is if he ensures that Irvine’s character doesn’t at all.
This first trailer is kind of nutty. Director Jean-Baptiste Leonetti certainly puts together some striking visuals, but there’s less emphasis on the interplay between Douglas and Irvine than I was hoping for. Matt saw the film at TIFF and was not a fan (read his review here), but this trailer does have a certain degree of curiosity about it.
