Production is underway on Tim Burton‘s Big Eyes, and the first set photo has quickly leaked.  The film’s story focuses on the artistic coupling of Margaret (Amy Adams) and Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz).  Walter became famous in the 1950s and 60s for paintings featuring saucer-eyed kids, though it was the shy Margaret who really did the work.  Margaret eventually tired of the misplaced credit, which led to a divorce and a heated court battle to prove authorship of the paintings.  Burton has taken a lot of flack over recent years for work that has become self-parody, and that criticism is well deserved.  But he’s shown his talent in the past, and a script from Ed Wood scribes Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski could provide Burton with a return to some of his better work.  It also helps that, aside from the animated Frankenweenie, this will be Burton’s first movie without Johnny Depp in almost a decade, so that tiresome pairing can be put aside for the time being.  Whether we’ll see any of Burton’s overly familiar set designs on Big Eyes remains to be seen.

Hit the jump to check out the first set photo from the movie.  The film also stars Danny Huston, Krysten Ritter, Jason Schwartzman, and Terence Stamp.

What about Big Fish and Planet of the Apes? Both movies directed by Tim Burton and Johnny Depp is not in these films. At least check out IMDB before you go talking out of one side of you mouth.
