Ahh, the beautiful California real estate and dreamy soundtrack mean that Big Little Lies is almost back! The excellent HBO series, which was meant to end after its limited run, was brought back by popular demand (and by how much fun the cast had together) for a second, 7-episode season starting in June.

Created by David E. Kelley, based on the novel by Liane Moriarty, the new season will be directed by Andrea Arnold, taking over from Season 1's Jean-Marc Vallée. The full trailer reveals that while some of the snark and satire of the first season are still definitely part of the show (though hopefully the Greek Chorus is gone for good), the women are still very much haunted by the events of the finale, where this contentious group must bond together like never before. (And it looks dramatic).

The Monterey Five — Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern) and Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) — are all returning, along with Celeste’s visiting mother-in-law, Mary Louise (Meryl Streep), as well as their (surviving) husbands, Ed (Adam Scott), Nathan (James Tupper) and Gordon (Jeffrey Nordling).

Check out the trailer below; Big Little Lies returns Sunday, June 9th on HBO.

Here's the official synopsis for Big Little Lies Season 2:

The second season of this subversive, darkly comedic drama will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode…the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.
