Warner Bros. just released eight clips from Scott Cooper's Black Mass. The movie tells the true story of Whitey Bulger (Johnny Depp), the former leader of the mob crew known as the Winter Hill Gang. Back in the 1970s in Boston, Bulger struck a deal with FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) in order to eliminate a mutual enemy, the Italian mob.

It's quite the story with a good deal of very important characters, and this selection of clips actually offers up a nice sampling of the key players. On top of that, two of my favorite scenes from the movie are in the mix, a dinner scene during which Whitey threatens FBI supervisor John Morris (David Harbour) and another teasing Peter Sarsgaard's performance as one of Whitey's associates, the kooky Brian Halloran.

Check out all eight Black Mass clips for yourself below and be sure to keep an eye out for Matt's review coming soon. The film is due in theaters nationwide on September 18th and also stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Rory Cochrane, Jesse Plemons, Kevin Bacon, Dakota Johnson,Juno Temple, W Earl Brown, Corey Stoll, Julianne Nicholson and Adam Scott.

Here’s the official synopsis for Black Mass:

In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster Jimmy Bulger (Depp) to collaborate with the FBI in order to eliminate their common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement while consolidating his power and becoming one of the most ruthless and dangerous gangsters in Boston history.
