Warner Bros. has released a new Black Mass trailer for writer/director Scott Cooper's (Crazy HeartOut of the Furnace) upcoming drama.  The film stars Johnny Depp as notorious crime boss Whitey Bulger, who simultaneously worked as an FBI informant and committed horrible crimes throughout the Boston area for decades. Cooper's film follows Bulger's criminal career through multiple decades of terror.

I like what I'm seeing here. The trailer has personality and it's fun - the latter being a quality that is lacking in most crime sagas. It's great to see Depp doing some serious acting for the first time in over a decade and honestly, it looks like he's going to kill it. Depp is an actor known for relying heavily on costume to make himself "unrecognizable", but this is some of the best work I've seen in that regard. And let's not forget about that supporting cast. It's like someone rounded up all my favorite underrated actors and threw them in one film - Juno Temple, Corey Stoll, and Peter Saarsgard? Get out. I'm also excited to see Dakota Johnson, who emerged as the single bright spot in the 50 Shades of Grey fiasco, take on some heavier material.

Check out the new Black Mass trailer below via Warner Bros. The film opens September 18th and also stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, and Jesse Plemons.

Here's the synopsis:
In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (Johnny Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob.  The drama tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.
