We’ve been talking about a possible Black Panther movie for quite some time now, but as far as we know, there hasn’t been much movement on the project yet.  However, while discussing his upcoming release, Kill The Messenger, Michael K. Williams expressed interest in taking the role of T’Challa if the movie actually happens.

According to Marvel’s character description, Black Panther is a royal descendant of a warrior race who eats a heart-shaped herb to enhance his senses and his physical attributes.  He’s skilled in unarmed combat and uses a hybrid fighting technique that combines acrobatics with animal mimicry.  Hit the jump for more on Williams’ hope to join the MCU.

When Cinema Blend asked Williams if he’s been approached to suit up for Marvel, he replied:

"No not yet.  And I'm saying 'yet' with a lot of emphasis.  But hopefully I'm looking forward to being apart of the franchise."

Clearly nothing’s official, but if Williams is emphasizing the word “yet,” one would think there has at least been a little bit of talk of Williams being in the running for a role.  When asked which one he’d like, he immediately went for Black Panther:

"Black Panther.  Yeah, definitely."

Williams also highlighted what he thinks he could bring to the role:

"It would depend on the script.  I would definitely bring that quintessential New York City edge.  You know, just a little bit of that grit."

Again, Marvel has yet to confirm plans to push forward with a Black Panther movie, but according to Comic Book Resources, while fielding a question about a Black Widow solo movie at the Fan Expo Canada, Stan Lee noted that the studio is working on a Black Panther one, too:

“And the chances are she will have her own movie because eventually all the superheroes are going to have their own movies.  They are already working on Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and the Black Panther, and there are others I am not allowed to talk about."

Even though we wouldn’t have an MCU without Lee, we don’t know how much he really knows about the studio’s development plans, but considering Black Panther’s home nation, Wakanda, has been teased in previous films and is also rumored to be part of Avengers: Age of Ultron, it does seem as though Black Panther could make his way to the big screen soon enough.
