Marvel Studios Discussing BLACK WIDOW Spinoff

In an interview today, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed that they’re discussing plans to give Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson) her own movie…but only after they’re done with The Avengers.  Speaking to Superhero Hype, Feige said, “We’ve already started discussions with Scarlett about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts, but “The Avengers” comes first.”   Hopefully they’ll be planning to give Johansson a little more screen-time in The Avengers.  Her big action scene in Iron Man 2 drew cheers at the screening I attended and I think audiences want an ass-kicking female superhero.

The Avengers begins filming in February 2011 and will hit theaters on May 4, 2012.  Directed by Joss Whedon, The Avengers also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, and Mark Ruffalo.

    • agreed. IMO, A lot of the spinoffs are going to fall flat. Deadpool and possibly even the avengers are in the same category depending on how they are done.

  1. If they’d of actually cast a Russian or a actress who was willing to do a accent I’d say go for it, as it would essentially be a SHIELD movie. But spinning of Johanssen as Black Widow would be about as good and doing a Storm spin off with Hally Berry, it wouldn’t be able to stand on it’s own as the main character would be fundamentally miscast.
I mean imagine is they had cast Elecktra semi correctly, imagine if they’d of cast Monica Belluci at least, it would of been better… but instead they cast Jennifer Gardner, who I don’t dislike but is about as much like Elektra as Burt Reynolds is James Bond.

  2. This will be cool. I liked Johansson as Black Widow but I hope she does have a russian accent. Also, Elektra was just awful but If Black Widow is done by Marvel, I’m willing to show faith for this film.
