“Gossip Girl’s” Blake Lively and Chris Cooper (“Breach”) have joined the cast of Ben Affleck’s crime thriller, “The Town”. The actor turned director follow up to 2007’s “Gone Baby Gone” already has a pretty solid ensemble cast including Affleck, Jon Hamm, Rebecca Hall, and Jeremy Renner. The film is an adaptation of Chuck Hogan’s novel “Prince of Thieves” and follows the story of a bank manager (Hall), the career criminal (Affleck) who stole more than her heart, and the dedicated FBI agent (Hamm) trying to bust the crook and his gang, of which Renner is a part of. To read some of my thoughts about the cast and who Lively and Cooper will be playing, hit the jump.
‘Lively will be playing Jeremy Renner’s sister and Affleck’s troubled ex-girlfriend when the film begins to shoot next month in Boston. Meanwhile, THR also reports that Chris Cooper will be playing Affleck’s father. I don’t know when the casting of Renner was announced but I’m glad to see that this year’s pretty amazing “The Hurt Locker” is proving to be his breakout role. He’s been one of those actors that I have been rooting for the past couple of years and I’m glad to see him getting another big role.
I’m not familiar with Lively’s work on “Gossip Girl”, but I am familiar with Chris Cooper’s work and I am stoked to hear him joining this one. Cooper is one of those actors which I still feel gets overlooked despite already having anOscar for his performance in “Adaptation”. He is is one of those actors who is always good. Always.
I know I might be praising this cast too much but I also have to say that I’m most looking forward to seeing Jon Hamm’s (“Mad Men”) performance way more than anyone else’s performance. I’ve hinted towards my man crush towards TV’s Don Draper in the past but I really do think that he is giving the finest performance on TV right now. Every time I watch “Mad Men” I wish and hope that someone in Hollywood will give him a chance and make him into the next big leading man. I have my fingers crossed that this role combined with his role in Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch will do just that.
You can watch Blake Lively in the new season of “Gossip Girl” which premieres September 14th before seeing her on the big screen in “New York, I Love You.” , which also stars Chris Cooper, starting October 16th. You can also see Chris Cooper in next years “The Company Man”.
