In December, Latino Review reported that there were five actresses in contention for the lead female role of The Green Lantern: Eva Green, Keri Russell, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively, and Jennifer Garner.  Now Heat Vision is reporting that the list has been narrowed down to one, as Gossip Girl‘s Blake Lively has been chosen as Ryan Reynold’s leading lady for the 2011 superhero film.  Lively will play Carol Ferris, who runs her father’s aerospace company and becomes smitten with test pilot and future superhero Hal Jordan (Reynolds) after hiring him.

The role was written for an older female; Lively is currently only 22, which makes her eleven years younger than Reynolds.  But Lively reportedly impressed the studio and filmmakers, who liked her work in The Town, in her audition.  She does seem a bit young to be running a company, but it is probably more crucial that Lively can hold her own against the wittily sarcastic Reynolds.

The Green Lantern, as directed by Martin Campbell, is targeting a June 17, 2011 release.

oh cool i can post here now. Relax lenny. If she beat all those actresses out, then i have faith. plus blake lively in the star sapphire uni. nice.

She did impress the studios, producers, director, etc more than the rest but at the same time knowing those rat studios they probably cast her because of her teen fanbase, which to them might equal more money. Personally, if I had a choice between Keri Russell and Blake Lively for this role the clear winner would be Russell. Just take a look at a pic of the character and compare both actresses to that and you'll see. But people know Keri Russell about as much as you know me, so.

I guess there's not even going to be any foundation of reality to step off from in this movie — they're going to ignore the ethos that made IRON MAN and THE DARK KNIGHT so effective with modern audiences and go pure Hollywood here. I mean Blake Lively, a 22 year old who still play teenagers is the COO of an aerospace contractor? I agree, this is all about marketing quadrants. They could have cast a credible actress here to help ground this thing and they threw any pretense of that right out the window.

I'd rather see someone a bit older but I've only seen her in that movie Accepted with Justin Long and she wasn't bad at all. Plus she's really hot so that's always good.

DAMN DAMN DAMN! Why couldn't I have Keri Russell?! :( Or at least Diane Kruger?! But no they cast blondie dumb dumb from the CW. I am 22 like Lively, and a straight male, so I'm the type of person they cast her to interest. You know what? SHE DOESN'T! I'd like someone with more class, better acting skills, and older to fit the part a lot more!

yeah i hear you. i'm sure she was cheap too. but i'll give Campbell the benefit of the doubt. i hope to be surprised by her.
