The first trailer for Bleed for This has been released online. Based on the life of five-time world boxing champion Vinny Pazienza, the film stars Miles Teller and tracks “The Pazmanian Devil” through his career-ending car accident and subsequent determination to make a comeback. This trailer has a very strong Martin Scorsese vibe, so it should come as no surprise that Scorsese has an executive producer credit on the picture. Ben Younger, the filmmaker behind the 2000 Wall Street thriller Boiler Room and 2005’s romantic comedy Prime, directs from a script he wrote himself, and it’s fairly clear this is a bit of a passion project for all involved.

Does it look any good? It’s hard to say. Yes there’s a Scorsese vibe, but does the film feel like it’s ripping off a better filmmaker or simply homaging the tone of one of the greats? Teller is an undeniable talent, and coming off of Whiplash and the less-than-stellar Fantastic Four, the actor certainly seems to be making a hard turn into gritty, character-driven dramas, so the potential is certainly there.
