It's hard to believe our dear Coach Taylor when he says, "we're not bad people, but we did a bad thing" at the end of the new Bloodline featurette, but the show seems to promise us a very different side to Kyle Chandler than we're used to seeing. The family drama, premiering on Netflix later this month, explores the lives and secrets of the Rayburn family, who have made themselves something of an institution in the Florida Keys. Chandler plays the family's rock, John, the son who tries to keep them all from unraveling.

Since the series comes from the creators of Damages -- Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman, and Glenn Kessler -- expect plenty of darkness, a plethora of twists, and a lot of murky motivations and morality. Like Damages, Bloodline will kick off with a future event that appears to be a turning point for the family, and the first season will then go back in time to lead up to that event with more context, and surely, a heap of drama.

Bloodline stars Sam Shepard as family patriarch Robert, who along with his wife Sally (Sissy Spacek) raised four children (played by Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini, Norbert Leo Butz and Chandler), all of whom are still close and live close together, save for Mendelsohn's Danny. Danny, the oldest, is also a black sheep, and the series kicks off with him returning home. Each of the main actors are on hand in the featurette to talk about the series, and what's in store for the family coming up.

As a fan of Damages, dark family dramas, and (in a nice juxtaposition) stories set in the Sunshine State, I'm personally really looking forward to the series. It looks like it has hints of Six Feet Under and even Justified, so I'm hoping it lives up to expectations. (With such a great cast, it's hard to imagine any other outcome, but I live to be surprised).

All 13 episodes of Bloodline will premiere on Netflix on Friday, March 20th. In the meantime, I highly recommend catching up on Damages. It's an overlooked thriller that is far more than just a legal series. Though it kind of loses its way halfway through, its final season is really strong.
