Blue Is the Warmest Color is a terrific film, but due to the Academy’s arcane and idiotic rules, it’s ineligible for Best Foreign Film.  However, it can still be nominated in other categories, and IFC Films has released a red-band trailer pushing for Adele Exarchopoulos to get a Best Actress nomination.  She absolutely deserves wide-spread recognition for her astounding performance as a young woman moving through a romantic and sexual awakening.  I’ve never seen a publicly released For Your Consideration trailer, and the movie hit theaters back in October, but I’m glad IFC is continuing to lobby for the picture and its breakthrough star.  This could also be an attempt to deflect the press-tour tensions that threatened to overshadow the Palm d’Or winner.  Either way, if FYC the campaign succeeds, it could help boost sales of the bare bones Criterion Collection release in February (Criterion promises a “full special edition” will be released a later date).

Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer.

Not into the promulgation of porn as dramatic content. Adele is cute but the mire of sex in this movie covers her performance with a stinky sheen of sex.

She has the best performance of any female this year.

She has the best performance. Period. Not only do I hope she gets nominated, I seriously hope she wins! (Wishful thinking, I know).

i don’t mean to be crass, and i should probably see the movie before i comment, but would people (men) care about this movie if it were two ugly chicks going at it? or at least two decent chicks? the only reason i almost saw this was because i heard it was 3 hours of two hot chicks bumping uglies so vigorously that it needed an nc-17 rating. she very well may have had a great performance, but i feel like this is too focused on the sex, and it probably would go unnoticed if it wasn’t two beautiful actresses

In all honesty, I’m a straight male, and both actresses are ridiculously gorgeous (and hot as hell), but I love the film (in fact it’s my favorite film of the year) because of it’s emotional core. It’s a beautiful love story between to human beings (not only between two hot lesbians).
You should definitely check it out, it’s worth it and the sex scenes are not there to arouse, but to move the story (and develop their relationship) forward.

there’s not a lot of romantic dramas featuring unattractive leads these days, men or women, they need to be aesthetically pleasing

Imagine this movie with Rosie O’donell and Cynthia Nixon (lol sorry for the terrible mental image) no one in their right mind would watch it.

Being attractive is part of the package of appealing to a wider audience, thats why the people of hollywood are labelled the “beautiful people”. There were a lot of comments regarding the explicitness of the sex scenes as people found the very long sex scene unnecessary and frankly too damn long with no importance except i guess to titillate the male audience a bit. So i guess the sex scenes would attract a male audience and the love story would attract the male – but the end result would have them see the entire product and hopefully enjoy both aspects.

Surprised that trailer is red band, it’s the tamest one I can recall seeing. Probably only one quick shot that would keep it from being shown on TV.

Or is it automatically red band just because of the rating of the film itself?

Lets be real here, her performance in this movie knocks Jennifer Lawrences performance in American Hustle straight out of the park – but Lawrence will still get a nomination because of her current status.

Using words like “arcane” is why nobody likes your opinions Goldberg. It’s not even necessarily the content of your opinion (sometimes it is), it’s the way you carry yourself.

Sorry, but my male reptilian brain can’t focus on drama when I see two lesbians bumping each other.
