Bradley Cooper in Early Negotiations to Star in THE CROW Remake

     April 12, 2011

Well that was fast. Just a week ago 28 Weeks Later director/co-writer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was tapped to helm the remake of The Crow for Relativity Media, and now Bradley Cooper is in talks to star. Heat Vision reports that Cooper met with the Spanish director in Spain recently and the two “shared a vision for the character and the film.” This flick is a “re-invention” of the 1994 film based on the James O’Barr comic which tells the story of a rock star who is murdered trying to rescue his fiancée by thugs, only to be resurrected in order to seek revenge.

Production on the film is slated to begin this fall. No screenwriter is mentioned in the report, but it’s assumed that Fresnadillo will be doing at least some script work on the film given his writing background. Cooper has been pulling off the “leading man” thing lately, and was a staple on most recent comic-book movie shortlists (he auditioned for Green Lantern). It looks like the actor may finally have his turn.

Really?!! The only worse choice I can think of is Ryan Reynolds…

  • Clark Kent

While he certainly isn’t my first choice, maybe he’s looking to do something to show off what real talent he has? Now that he’s pretty much a household name to the main stream movie goers? Could just be looking for a challenge.

There is no way Cooper takes this Crow job, no way. Relativity Media? Not exactly Warner Brothers. Nothing to see here, move along.

  • dude

Not my first choice, but lets face it, if the internet was around in 1994 like it is today everybody would be blasting the studio for hiring the guy from Showdown in Little Tokyo. I’m sure Cooper will do fine.

    • LEM

The internet was around in 1994 and I think most people would have been excited for the son of Bruce Lee to get the part. Bradley Cooper can be great but this just doesn’t seem to fit to me. I guess it depends on what the tone and story are for the remake.

To keep in casting with famous sons, they should cast Sage Stallone lol, or Van Dammes kid.

If your going to reboot something why not at least try and transcend the original? Casting the protagonist with the range of Keanu Reeves is a bad start.

He’s not the sharpest tool in the box either.

the very thought of remaking this film makes me lose all faith in the industry’s ability to create something original anymore. I loved the Brandon Lee version, the sequels sucked but don’t ruin the memory of a cult classic.

  • mrbatmatt

The thought of a remake is bad enough. Bradley Cooper as The Crow is even worse. Can’t stand the guy. He may be a good actor at times but he comes off as such a douche bag in everything I’ve ever seen him in. He should be funboy so he goes out with a slow horrible overdose. That, I would pay to see.

I honestly think that JGL should play the crow. I think he’ll be perfect for it.

  • Terry

    it would suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love BC but he ain’t crow material. Sorry but true. He’s not the tragic type.
But since we’re talking about casting somebody for a movie then why don’t we entertain the idea of Mike Tyson playing Michael Jackson in his life story.
