A new synopsis for Pixar’s Brave has gone online.  We already knew the film was set in the mystical Scottish Highlands and revolved around a young princess (voiced my Kelly Macdonald) who defies a sacred custom of the land, inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom, and then makes an ill-fated wish in order to set things right.  The new synopsis adds a bit more color to the previous synopsis although it doesn’t add much in the way of new plot details.  However, it’s looking like that for everyone who was unimpressed with Cars 2 (i.e. everyone), Brave will be the terrific experience we’ve come to expect from Pixar.

Hit the jump to check out the synopsis.  Click here, here, and here for our Brave interviews at D23.  The film also stars Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane, and Julie Walters.  Brave opens in 3D on June 22, 2012.

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In “Brave,” a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts.

Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.

Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, “Brave” is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and the signature Pixar humor enjoyed by audiences of all ages. The film takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

  1. Dingwall is where my mom was born. It’s a Viking name not the name of a Calidonian king. Still looking forward to this one.

  2. The people who became the Celts were Gaulish tribes from, among other places, what’s now Switzerland. That’s close enough to Viking for me.

  3. Personally, I LOVED Cars 2.
And in “Brave” I could’ve done without some of pixars humor.
For those wondering if they should ring younger children (it’s only PG after all!) don’t.
There was crude humor I wouldn’t want my kids repeating,
And Pixar is getting so good at animation, It would be very scary for younger kids. It almost scared me.
This is an edge of your seat/action/fantasy/medieval movie.
Certainly NOT like other disney princesses.
For me, It was a blend of”The Princess and the Frog” mixed with “Brother Bear”. Note the BEAR bears play a huge role in this movie (I didn’t know ahead of time, Congrats if you did).

For older audiences, I’m very glad I saw this, If you like action and fantasy, go see this movieand decide what you think!
