Usually, we tell you who’s signing on to a project, but right now we’re going to tell you a couple directors who are signing off. First up, Pajiba reports that director Breck Eisner (The Crazies) is no longer directing the remake of David Cronenberg’s The Brood. However, the project isn’t dead and Spyglass Entertainment, the production company behind the remake, is now looking for a new director. The original 1979 flick is about (per IMDb) “A man who tries to uncover an unconventional psychologist’s therapy techniques on his institutionalized wife, while a series of brutal attacks committed by a brood of mutant children coincides with the husband’s investigation.”
Pajiba also reports that David Fincher is no longer involved with the adaptation of the graphic novel Black Hole. Hit the jump for more on his departure from the project.
Fincher’s exit from Black Hole is no big surprise. I could see him acting in the role of a producer, but the notion he would direct has passed as he’s already moving on to adapt The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and it’s unclear if he’ll direct the other two books in the trilogy, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. He also has his re-adaptation of Heavy Metal in the works.
It’s a shame to see him leave the project since it’s based on strong the source material, which is about a sexually transmitted disease that causes physical disfigurements. Screenwriters Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary departed the project long ago so it looks like this project is destined to languish in development hell for a while.

Old news day, eh? F Pajiba. These details have been known for months. Eisner said Brood “wasn't for him” while doing press for the Crazies DVD. And Fincher, well, duh. Again, way old news.
I never thought I'd hear a more annoying industry buzzword than 're-imagining' (or possibly 'reboot' if I'm in an especially grumpy mood), but 're-adaptation'?! Sheesh. I hope to God that clunker doesn't catch on…
