Brett Ratner has picked up the rights to adapt Charles Robert Jenkins and Jim Frederick's 2008 memoir The Reluctant Communist.  The story follows Jenkins as he drunkenly surrenders to the North Koreans while drunk and then undergoes a strange and lengthy prison term.  So take comfort in the fact that the dumbest thing you've ever done while drunk probably doesn't come close to surrendering to North Korea and becoming a political prisoner for 40 years.  According to Variety, screenwriter Ross Katz (Taking Chance) will pen the script with Ratner set to direct.

Ratner is currently in pre-production on the upcoming Tower Heist, which stars Ben Stiller as the overworked manager of a luxury building who plans to steal from a Bernie Madoff-type who's under house arrest in the penthouse.
