On the heels of yesterday's poster debut, Dreamworks and Fox 2000 have released the first trailer for Steven Spielberg‘s Cold War thriller Bridge of SpiesFrom a script by Joel and Ethan Coen, and Matt Charman, the film stars Tom Hanks as Brooklyn Insurance Lawyer dragged into the thick of Cold War politics when the CIA recruits him to negotiate with the Soviets for the release of an American spy pilot.

This is without a doubt one of the most exciting films of the year. From Schindler's List to Saving Private Ryan to the criminally underrated Lincoln, Spielberg has a stunning track record of excellent historical dramas, and it looks like Bridge of Spies could be the next masterpiece on that list. Not to mention the added edge it gets from a Coen brothers script.

The Cold War is a time that is fairly close, historically speaking, but couldn't feel further away from our tech savvy information age, yet cultural paranoia is an issue we still struggle with as a nation on a daily basis. Spielberg is a filmmaker who respects the resonance of historical themes, and I have a feeling he'll make the hysterical fear and rage feel all to relevant. Hanks, of course, is the prototypical Hollywood everyman who can bring relatability to the grandest concepts, and it looks like this could be his best performance of the last decade.

The film also stars Amy Ryan, Mark Rylance, Scott Shepherd, and Austin Stowell and arrives in theaters October, 16th 2015. For more on the movie, here's 12 things to know about Bridge of Spies.
