New ‘Brightburn’ Poster and Extended Trailer Tease a Superhero Horror Story

     March 29, 2019

What if Superman, but evil? Well, you’re probably pretty much effed, that’s what. At least that’s the gist in the new extended trailer Sony Pictures has debuted for Brightburn. Produced by James Gunn and written by Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn, Brightburn sees director David Yarovesky at the helm of what the studio is calling “a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre.” Superheroes and horror? Yeah, you bet I’m into it.

Elizabeth Banks stars as a mother who discovers an extraterrestrial child (Jackson A. Dunn) who has crash-landed on Earth and takes him in as her own. Sound familiar? Well, that’s where the parallel’s stop, because unlike the Man of Steel, this little weirdo is super into killin’ folk. In fact, this red-eyed dude appears to take out a whole damn plane, and I don’t think he’s even hit puberty yet. Humanity is so boned.

It’s a super fun if not entirely original concept, and everything we’ve seen from the film so far looks great. Speaking of which, this is an “extended” trailer, but we’re talking mere moments of footage so a lot of this will be familiar to folks who’ve had their eye on the project. And now that we’re on the subject of eyes…. yeesh. You can see what I mean in the trailer below, followed by a cool new piece of poster art.

Brightburn opens May 24th and also stars David Denman, Gregory Allen Williams, Matt Jones, Meredith Hagner, and Steve Agee.

Here’s the official synopsis for Brightburn:

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?

With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.
