Last year, we reported that Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller was developing a contemporary take on the 1960s sitcom The Munsters. While NBC didn’t greenlight the pilot at that time, they let Fuller keep working on the project. Just a few weeks ago he turned in the latest draft of the series, and NBC has taken quite a liking to it as they’ve officially ordered a pilot. Fuller’s version is a “visually spectacular” one hour drama, and NBC is apparently envisioning the show as a potential summer or event series. Hit the jump to find out how Fuller’s characters differ from those of the original series.
Per Deadline, Fuller’s iteration of the character breaks down as follows:
“Grandpa Sam Dracula is essentially Dracula who assembled Herman because no man was good enough for his daughter Lily, a sexy vamp. Lily’s niece Marilyn the freak is actually normal and Lily and Herman’s only child, Eddie, has his werewolf tendencies surface in puberty, forcing the family to relocate to their famous 1313 Mockingbird Lane address.”
I’m over the moon about this news, as I found Pushing Daisies to be one of the most inventive and entertaining shows on network television in years. Fuller also recently sold a Hannibal series to NBC, based on the delectable serial killer. That show was picked up against a 13-episode commitment, so if NBC likes the first script the series goes straight into production.

I am so excited about this!!! I am not going to say anything bad about this show, no matter how bad it ends up being. At least I will try.
The more the world gets of Bryan Fuller’s work the better. Pushing Daisies was an amazing TV show, as was Dead Like Me, and his work on the various Star Trek series and episodes of Heroes made for some of the best additions to their respective lots. Were it not for Fuller I’d have zero interest in either of them, but I would love to see Fuller give the Munsters some of his quirky flair that he had with Pushing and Dead, and I hope to see what he does with Hannibal. as well.
Whilst i love the munsters, i’d normally be against a rebotch of this classic show. Fred Gwyn is unbeatable!
Only person i can think of that visually looks like him is RON PERLMAN.
And after seeing him in Name of the Rose, he can do.. cooky!
Ron Perlman as Herman Munster, works for me!
The announcement of Ron Perlman as Herman in 3…2…1
I hope it’s a gritty version of the Munsters where they tackle the tough issues like racism and the unemployment rate.
brad garrett could pull off herman munster, methinks.
