With Halloween just around the corner, what better time to find out from EW that Bryan Fuller, the man behind such series as Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies, is working on a contemporary take on the 1960′s sitcom The Munsters. In addition, there’s a rumor going around that Guillermo Del Toro is looking to get involved in the project. The comedy series followed a family of monsters and their exploits that often resulted in mocking classic monster movies, and popular culture of the era from other TV series like Leave It to Beaver. Unlike The Addams Family, Herman, Lily, Eddie, Marilyn and Grandpa Munster were a little more grounded and a little less well-to-do.
If anyone other than Bryan Fuller were attached to this series remake, I would kill it with fire, but his unique style and storytelling seems perfect for an off-kilter family of monsters like this. In addition, if del Toro’s involvement means we get a comedic tone similar to that of Hellboy then I’m all in. Apparently the series (which only has a pilot ordered thus far) is described as Modern Family meets True Blood. Maybe del Toro could get Ron Perlman to play Herman? Seems like a crazy idea and a long shot, but it would certainly be interesting. What do you guys think?
boo. the old show is still family friendly and wacky fun. just hope this doesnt become a non family vulgar show…plenty of those already.
If you saw Pushing Daisies, you’ll know Bryan Fuller isn’t one to create vulgar television on broadcast networks
Will it be a movie or tv show??
LOVED the original, and No-one on earth can play Herman, he was perfect!
Alsthough, if a movie, maybe Ron Perlman as Herman, and Robert Englund as Grandpa.
Pass on who could play the others though.
NBC has ordered a pilot from Bryan Fuller. So this will actually be a TV series. Keep in mind Perlman has been dabbling in television with his role on FX’s Sons of Anarchy.
I would love to see it. Especially with a Pushing Daisies or Dead Like Me style and a Hellboy twist. Maybe it’s because I’m also a fan of Trueblood and Modern Family, but I think this is something that may do well.
I guess everybody is cool with the fact that this show is with NBC. How much you want to be it’s going to get canceled first or second season, and on top of that they are probably going to force the tone of the show into something a lot more ‘white america’.
I’m afraid to get interested simply because I don’t want another baby killed. At this point the only shows I really watch are HBO, SHO and AMC. With a couple of staples like The Office and Rescue Me mixed in.
What in the world are you talking about?
i don’t know how I feel about this…I love the original Munsters series….in black and white…but I do like Bryan Fuller’s style…god I hope the network doesn’t ruin it!
Guillermo Del Toro wants to be involved in everything. It’s come to the point that I don’t take any Guillermo Del Toro story seriously anymore.
I decided already that Brad Garrett is Herman Munster. He is a walking, talking Herman. Come on!
My Munster dream cast: Brad Garrett as Herman, Robert Englund as Grandpa, Sherilyn Fenn as Lily, and new comers for Marilyn and Eddie. The top 3 are awesome and to make them interesting, Marilyn can have her usual low self esteem issues, and Eddie is a sweet little boy, but can turn into a freakish beastly little werewolf.
Ran out of ideas huh NBC?
In earlier article you trashed Dreamworks for cashing in on something that was already done and now your in love with this?
Are you familiar with the word HYPOCRITE Ethan? You should because you are one.
