After the excellent news that Bryan Singer would be directing X-Men: First Class, Variety caught up with the director for more details on the plot. Here’s what Singer had to say:
“This is the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there relationship took a wrong turn. There is a romantic element, and some of the mutants from ‘X-Men’ will figure into the plot, though I don’t want to say which ones. There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain.”
I always thought that Xavier and Magneto’s split came from their attitude towards humans but if there’s a romantic element, like the forbidden love between the two, I’m all for it. He may have meant that there was a romantic element separate from Xavier and Magneto’s break but I encourage writer Jamie Moss to go into this bold new direction. In either scenario, I agree with Singer when he says, “…if the characters are good, you want to see them on their journey even if you know their destiny.” However, Singer’s destiny remains unclear as he is reportedly in a “holding deal” for Jack the Giant Killer and waiting for the conceptual visual development on the giants in the film. He’s also attached to remakes of Battlestar Galactica and Excalibur.

I’m hoping Sinister is the villain.

There’s no way in hell that Tom Rothman will allow Bryan Singer to turn Magneto and Charles into homo’s. You’re out of your cotton picking mind.
