Last week, X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer tweeted that in 2016, the franchise would continue with X-Men: Apocalypse. We assumed that since he tweeted that information, he would be directing the film. Vulture has now confirmed that Singer will be returning to helm the sequel, making it his first back-to-back franchise venture since X-Men and X2. Furthermore, Days of Future Past will lead directly into X-Men: Apocalypse, and “the new film is intended to focus strictly on the younger McAvoy-Fassbender cast”. So where does that leave the franchise superstar Wolverine? Perhaps off on another solo adventure? Either way, it looks like DOFP will probably be a bit of a cliffhanger, so I’m glad Singer will be staying at the helm as the series moves to its next chapter (assuming DOFP is good, and as someone who thinks X2 is the best film in the franchise, I think it will be).
X-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23, 2014. X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27, 2016.
