Activision has unveiled the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare story trailer, revealing what gamers can expect from the campaign in the upcoming space-centric installment of the highly lucrative franchise. So what’s the story of the 14th Call of Duty game? Well, Infinite Warfare takes place in the very distant future, as the nations of Earth have united together to form the “United Nations Space Alliance” with the goal of colonizing new planets. That always goes well, but instead of battling aliens, gamers will have to square off against a hostile faction of humans that call themselves the Settlement Defense Front.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare saw Kevin Spacey stepping into the video game realm via motion-capture, and in Infinite Warfare it’s Game of Thrones star Kit Harington who takes on “famous actor” duties. Harington plays the leader of the Settlement Defense Front, and as seen in this story trailer, is not someone you want to mess around with. For filming, Harington shaved his beard and worked with filmmaker Guy Ritchie on his scenes. Ritchie is apparently a friend of the franchise, so he assisted in helping Harington bring his character to life as the actor sat on a giant blue screen set and performed opposite zero actors.
The campaign is usually the least interesting aspect of any Call of Duty game—let’s face it, we’re here for the multiplayer. But the space setting could provide a unique opportunity for Infinite Warfare, and I’m definitely curious to check out the campaign this time around.
