CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Hits Blu-ray on September 9th; Will Not Include a New One-Shot

     May 30, 2014

Though the film came out a couple of months ago, you’ll have to wait a while to get Captain America: The Winter Soldier on Blu-ray.  Disney announced today that the Marvel sequel will be released on home video on September 9th, though it will be available for digital download via Disney Movies Anywhere on August 19th.  Bonus features details are broad and unspecific at this point, as the press release simply states that the Blu-ray will include “making-of featurettes, audio commentary, never-before-seen deleted scenes, bloopers, and more.”  Directors Joe and Anthony Russo previously told us that the Blu-ray will include about five minutes worth of deleted scenes, with one in particular involving Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson at the end of the second act.  Curiously, one thing the Blu-ray won’t have is a new Marvel One-Shot short film, which accompanied previous Marvel Blu-ray releases.

I actually laughed at Cap’s face on that header pic. Those covers are terrible. Great movie though, definitely a buy.

It’s very 1940s though. All he needs is a cigar (not a robot cigar) and he could be a Sarge storming Omaha Beach on D-Day.

This movie had some great posters! I wish they would just use some of those for the Blu ray art. These box arts are terrible.

Huh, well that’s curious. I’ve updated the story accordingly. Thanks!

Maybe because Ant-Man was pushed back they lost the opportunity to tie something in there.

Can I have a custom variant cover with that shot of Redford walking away from the explosion?

  • Adrian

I’m sure I’m in the minority at this point since the other film is a lot newer to people but I definitely prefer Winter Soldier over Days of Future Past.

    • X-Men: The Winter Soldier

That’s a damn tough call. Both, imo, are the best Marvel movies to date. I’d have to pick DoFP, but I’m an X-Men fan, so maybe I’m biased.

    • DjangoBro

Winter Soldier played it too safe for me, which made it terrible. Last act was horrendous. And Nick Fury digging a hole through the ground to escape? *rolls eyes* I’m sorry but DOFP was an all round better film. Was never bored during it and the pacing was perfect. Winter Soldier on the other hand… it felt wayyyyy too long.

      • Adrian

For the most part, I really like Days of Future Past. I don’t know if I like it more than X2 yet but it’s definitely first or second in the series. More than likely it’ll be first for me in the end.

While I won’t say that Winter Soldier doesn’t have its flaws, there are just too many continuity gaps and unanswered questions left for me when it comes to the X-Men films.

      • Strong Enough

i’m sure he didn’t dig a hole. he just cut himself out of the car and ran off

  • DVDVD’s

So are DVD copies officially dead, as of this release? If so that’s pretty crazy!

    • World’s Finest Comments

Well it needed to happen eventually. Technology evolves, it’s what it does. Want them to put it on VHS and Laserdisc while we’re at it?

  • Devin Reed

Well, looks like they’re pulling the same stunt as Thor: TDW and leaving a DVD out of the 3D combo pack…. :-/

  • g

no one-shot short film. WTF ?!
