With production underway on Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, we’re already starting to see some set photos featuring the triumphant return of Chris Hemsworth’s Asgardian god. Next on Marvel’s docket after Thor 2 is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Chris Evans recently revealed to Steve exactly when that film starts shooting:
And for all the Marvel fans…Chris Evans says filming on the CAPTAIN AMERICA sequel begins in March 2013.

That puts the film on roughly the same 13-month production timeline as the first Captain America, so directors Anthony and Joe Russo shouldn’t have a problem making the film’s April 4th, 2014 release date. Hit the jump for a refresher on what we know so far about the follow-up.
As the title infers, we assume that Sebastian Stan will be back as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, which likely pits him as the film’s primary antagonist as he becomes a brainwashed Russian assassin known as Winter Soldier in the comics. It was also announced that Anthony Mackie will be playing the character of Falcon in the follow-up, a character who derives his powers from a suit which allows him to fly and—in the comics at least—can telepathically talk to birds. Samuel L. Jackson and S.H.I.E.L.D. are also expected to play a large role in the film.
A female lead has yet to be cast, but we recently heard that Anna Kendrick (50/50), Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), and Imogen Poots (Fright Night) are the possible frontrunners for the role. The first film’s scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely wrote the first draft of the script, but we haven’t heard much about the screenplay since the Russo brothers signed on to direct. Joss Whedon did a significant pass of the script for The First Avenger, and since he recently signed on to creatively consult on all of Marvel’s films in addition to doing The Avengers 2 one presumes he’ll have a hand in the development of The Winter Soldier.
As the March start-date looms closer, expect to hear more solid word on the film. Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens on April 4th, 2014.

You suck, dick head! Captain America was great and I look forward to the next one!
I really hope they get a new actor for Bucky. I think Stan did an fine job considering character of Bucky was used as more of a plot device than an in depth character. The role didn’t have a lot of meat to it, and so Stan did what he was supposed to. In the sequel, the movie is (presumably from the title) going to be a lot about Bucky. There is a lot of raw emotion in the Winter Soldier storyline of the comics. If they are going to get that part of it right, they should get an actor that has some serious chops. I would say Joseph Gordon Levitt, but that’s mostly because I can see him doing any younger-ish man roles. Who would be a good replacement if they were to recast Bucky?
I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the show Kings, but having seen his depiction of Jack Benjamin I personally think Sebastian Stan is going to knock it out of the park playing the Winter Soldier. He is excellent at playing troubled, unstable characters, and I am very much looking forward to his portrayal.
As you said, he didn’t have much to work with in the first film, but I wouldn’t discount him at all. Marvel’s always shown they know exactly what they’re doing.
@ matt lane: It’s too bad you weren’t able to find enjoyment in what was ultimately a fantastic and thoroughly enjoyable superhero film that managed to stay faithful to the source material, unlike that bullshit nolan bat-series. You’re complaining about no character arc but like nathan hall wisely put, the point was for Steve Rogers to not change his moral stance post-transformation, but to remain a good man. That was translated perfectly for me, not mention the great acting, character interaction, cinematography, and the nostalgic tone presented in the film. The montage sequence was weak, but overall CA:TFA was suprisingly well done. You sound like a whiny douche who saw fault when there was none. The film wasn’t faultless, but was a solid entry for the MCU. Quit being a fucking snob. Anyways, looking forward to Cap 2. And to daveyboy, i think stan will make a great winter soldier,no need to recast.
i’m looking forward 2it woo yea!
