Last week, Captain America: The Winter Soldier stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Sebastian Stan graced the cover of Empire Magazine.  Now, images from that issue have gone online, and they give us another close-up of the actors.  Of course, the one we really want is the shiny, new, titular Winter Soldier (Stan).  As you saw from the cover, Bucky Barnes is back and looking a little worse for wear.  I’m not exactly sure why he has Cap’s shield in one of these images, but perhaps it’s a gift that says, “I’m sorry you fell into a cavernous abyss; your bionic arm looks sweet, BTW.”

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Cobie Smulders, Anthony Mackie, Georges St-Pierre, Frank Grillo, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Maximiliano Hernández, Robert Redford, and Samuel L. JacksonCaptain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4, 2014.

Here’s the official synopsis for Captain America: The Winter Soldier:

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

To the Facebook comment, how about we cast taylor lautner as nightwing because if Chris Evans is good as captain America, then any actor will do

By the way , I always knew Chris Evans was gonna be great as captain America

      clap clap clap congratulations!

    • not mixed race or rich

by the way, you’re terrible at understanding what people are writing. The guy was saying we shouldn’t complain about Ben Affleck until we actually see the movie. Please learn some basic reading comprehension

I can’t wait for this flick
    Captain America was criminally underrated

(Today generation didnt love it because it was too “American”)

    • Lovecraftlives

What? It did well enough. I think because this one will feel like a sequel to the Avengers, then it will do a lot better than the last one. The Helicarrier alone will bring a lot of people in to see it.

According to fanboys it was the weakest of the pre-avengers movie and according to the same neck bearded fanboys captain America was the weakest link in the avengers movie

I guess he’s too American and we can have that

      • RiddleThemThis

I’m Canadian and I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. I liked it more than Thor, The Incredible Hulk & Iron Man 2.

Or the movie was just mediocre like pretty much all the Marvel movies in between Iron Man and The Avengers.

It actually wasn’t very “American” at all, in my opinion to the benefit of the film. If it had been more “American” it would have been overbearing and distracting and most of all would’ve taken away from Rogers’s characterisation and rationalisation of people being good or bad having no relation to where they’re from, good is good, bad is bad.It would seem like it’s saying “Americans good, Germans bad.”

Did you even see the movie ???
        Lol

    • mattinacan

oh yes too American. and he’s a racist, i’ll never watch him now.

      • danial

        how brutal

  • Kevin

I hope he freezes someone and tears out their spine like in the game.

  • Faptain America

Why does the suit have to change? I was happy with the CA:TFA suit, as well as the Avengers suit. This suit=bad.

    • RiddleThemThis

They can sell more toys this way.

    • enderandrew

Plenty of people complained about both the suits you mentioned.

I don’t mind this suit, but I prefer the Avengers version.

      • Faptain America

I understand that there’ll be different opinions on any suit, but I think RiddleThemThis below has it right. New look means kid must buy new toy.

    • Snoop

I’m thinking the new suit has to do with the fact he’s now working for shield , so a little more shield look by going darker , however it seems to me he finds out shield isn’t all good and begin his quest to dismantle them and I think that’s why we see him back in his original suit (extra stripe included yah! ) as sort of a symbolism of good vs. evil thing . JMT.

      • Snoop

If you watch the trailor at 2.06 those scene are from the present not the past and hes on the heli-carrier .

  • Daniel Ronczkowski

I imagine there will be 2 bad guys in this, at some point cpt. america will turn Bucky back into someone good right?

    • RiddleThemThis

Bucky has to be working for someone, so they will probably turn into the primary villain at one point.

      • Random Bystander

There will probably be 3 if Alexander Pierce isn’t Bucky’s boss.

    • Ridge

you are right, Bucky should help Capt. at one point to face the real enemy that we don’t know yet *cough* red skull *cough*

    • enderandrew

SHIELD always seems to operate in the grey. They fight bad guys, but sometimes do bad things themselves because they think they serve the greater good. All the trailers for this movie show Robert Redford’s character asking Captain America to do things he doesn’t want to do, talks about striking out at bad guys who haven’t done anything yet, and show a scene where SHIELD flat-out attacks Captain America in an elevator.

I think it is a safe bet that Robert Redford’s character is actually the main villain controlling Bucky.

      • Delahunte

This is hearsay but my roommate’s good friend is doing the second hand voice over for Chris Evans in this flick, and he’s already seen most of the first cut. He’s been pretty cagey about giving too much away but from what I’ve heard, Redford’s character is actually Captain America from the future, just retired. I have doubts about this but it sounds interesting nonetheless.

    • JBug

Robert Redford is the other bad guy.

i really realllllly hope it’s actually red skull in disguise. that would be such a great villain twist compared to iron man 3

I actually like the look of this suit in this one. Loved the look from the 1st film as it made sense why he would wear a bulkier suit but didn’t think that the Avengers costume translated well on screen. It just looked funny and not practical. It’s my only complaint against that film. But I’m glad they changed it up for this one. Of all of the Marvel films in Phase 2 this is by far the one I have anticipated the most especially after reading the direction they are taking it in. I grew up reading CA comics as a kid and am glad that they have handled his character in a smart and intelligent way for the films because it would have been very easy to mess him up considering that he’s the “boy scout” of the group.

      • The Flobbit

That’s a very daring move by Marvel…hope it pays off.
