I was so hoping we were done with trailers for trailers.  We hadn’t seen one in a while, so perhaps the trend had passed.  But Marvel has decided to pick it back up to promote tomorrow’s trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  And I get it.  People are excited to see the movie, but if that’s the case, then just show them the trailer.  Every single movie website is going to pick it up whether it’s released today or tomorrow.  If it’s a good trailer, it will spread quickly regardless of whether there was a teaser for it or not.

But again, I understand that some people can’t wait to get any look at the film they can, so hit the jump if you want to check out the very brief footage.  Click here for the new poster, click here for new images, and come back tomorrow at 12pm EST to see the full trailer.  The film stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Cobie Smulders, Georges St-Pierre, Frank Grillo, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Maximiliano Hernández, Robert Redford, and Samuel L. JacksonCaptain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4, 2014.

Update: Thanks to ET, you can now watch almost one minute of the trailer.

Via Marvel.

via ET. Almost one minute of the trailer.

Here’s the synopsis for Captain America: The Winter Soldier:

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

Sweet. I wonder if we’ll see Batroc, Crossbones, or Dr. Zola.

I think the reason nobody likes Captain America as a character is because nobody likes America anymore. You’re guys time has past. It’s time to let go

      • Guest

Well everybody likes American movies. I think our time has past, but in a good way. Stepping down as a world power has its benefits, namely, we can fix things here. And there’s plenty to fix, I think more Americans realize that than the world would care to admit. Lots of Americans don’t agree with the infighting in our government, encroachment and our colonial regime that ultimately exists to fund the banks. We care about the economic divide in our country. We care about human rights elsewhere, but understand the complexity and politics of other countries. We want to get back to our own manufacturing. I look forward to us reigning in, focusing on fixing America and getting back to the ideals that I grew up, when this country was respected. There are many great people here, who care for the world and its people, regardless of what anyone else thinks. So in that regard, in our core and spirit, Captain America lives on and America will endure, as much as it might disappoint you. We may not be a big superpower in years to come, but we will be a better nation.

Reins, not reigns, excuse me. How’s that for a pun?

That’s an interesting way to say that our nation is the only thing keeping the world economy intact. Lets not forget the economic shitstorm in the European Union that has threatened the world for years.

how uninformed can you possibly be???
i got nothing against americans, and i love american movies but the economic shitstorm you are referring to originated in the united states, and sorry, but your comment is completely ridiculous!at least you could do some research!

Yes but keep in mind, it was a very small but powerful contingent in America that did this to us all, not the vast majority of Americans who are really hurting. Even though the banks knew, literally knew, where we were heading, they continued to issue exorbitant loans based on bloated housing appraisals, in order to extort as much money as possible from the American public and line their corporate pockets. Everyone I know suffered. My own mother had to leave her home, because no one will hire a 56 year old woman. People call us puppets and sheep but there are Americans that are awake. And for those that aren’t – if you watch Oliver Stone’s Untold History of the United States, you will begin to see that the political spin in America is as convincing as Hitler’s war machine. The American people are impoverished, and the divide between poor and rich is greater than ever. But what Captain America represents is hope, and a return to the values that made this country, and all of humanity for that matter, great. The best part of all comic movies – ALL of them – is when Steve Rogers hops on the grenade to protect his fellow soldiers. That attitude of sacrifice for the greater good is what America should be about, and we’re going to reclaim it.

Don’t forget spying on their own citizens.

      • Rob

I’m not American, and I love captain America, because he’s a symbol for what American ideals used to represent, and what it, and the rest of us should aspire to. He doesn’t represent the corruption, fear and greed of the world today. He represents purity, idealism, fairness, justice, and protection of those who can’t protect themselves. Regardless of what country you come from, those are good values to strive for. I for one am glad the character is around to remind us of what we could be. And it looks like this movie touches on that. Can’t wait to see more.

    • LEM

I had no idea Georges St.Pierre was playing Batroc and I also see Gary Shandlings Senator Stern character, last seen in Iron Man 2, is in this too.

      • Kevin

Yeah, they aren’t in the trailer, but it should be cool. I heard Toby Jones is back as Dr. Zola and he mentioned something about “looking different this time”, but I don’t know if he’ll exactly look like Kraang.

Teasers for teasers…again? Stop itttttt. Yes I know I don’t have to watch it but it’s just so ridiculous

    • SPOILERS AHEAD

Here’s a teaser for you: Captain America will fail to pass his budget in a timely fashion and cost the country 24 Billion Dollars. Also, Captain America will have the ability to thwart children being gassed to death in Syria but then decide not to, even though he has the power to do so, because he’s a coward.

So you hate trailers for trailers but you make sure to post them when they come out so you can benefit from them… …gotcha!

    • Guest

I think this criticism is unfair and sophomoric. What’s he supposed to write when reporting? I was hoping we were done with trailers for trailers so I’m not posting this? Come on dude.

      • http://thenonessentials.blogspot.com/ Sean Chandler

If they’re not a trend they want repeated, DON’T report on them. Every time they report on teasers for trailers they push traffic towards these teasers which increases the likelihood we will get more of them.

Collider constantly choose what they will and won’t post on. They don’t post every piece of casting news. They don’t report on every movie in production. They don’t post every trailer. They don’t review every TV show. But they consistently choose to post teasers for trailers. However, to keep their credibility they always make a clever remark to make sure the reader knows they think teasers for trailers are stupid. If you think they’re stupid STOP PROMOTING THEM WITH YOUR BLOG.

Of course reporting on teasers for trailers also draws traffic to Collider. So they’re not going to stop posting about them. It’s the same reason they keep posting every absurd casting rumor Latino Review posts. They draw in traffic regardless of whether they’re real news or not. Thus they report on things they strongly oppose simply because it benefits them.

      • Guest

You’ve answered your own question. They report them because it draws traffic, and in order to sustain a site, that’s necessary. Respectfully, have you run a business before? There’s no controversy here, as much as you might want one. I can respect your point, but it’s the same reason Marvel is releasing a pre-trailer in the first place – to sustain themselves. You’re obviously a smart person, but I think in reality, this point you’re making is an effort to attack Goldberg. I think saving the criticisms for things that truly matter makes more sense, don’t you?

      • JayF

Any other “reporter” on here could’ve posted it. Goldberg just wanted to bitch about it.

      • http://thenonessentials.blogspot.com/ Sean Chandler

I totally agree this is a disagreement which doesn’t matter. My problem is with the ingregrity of Collider as a whole (and I picked this to make stand). They like to report on things (which will draw traffic) while attacking them at the same time. Which given their platform (I found them through Rotten Tomatoes), means they are frequently endorsing things which they don’t agree with.

…you are correct I am not a fan of Goldberg. I don’t understand why he reports and reviews for a website which focuses on things he hates.

I think the company can choose whether or not it wants to release a teaser for a trailer. It isn’t in any way shape or form necessary for its existence. With your logic, businesses can do anything without criticism because businesses act in their own self interest. Just sayin.

      • Guest

No one is saying not to criticize a business, if their practices are unfair. Is Matt being unfair here? Or honest? He isn’t even being a dick, just saying he was hopeful the trend of trailers for trailers will end, a relatively benign statement. You have to ask yourself, is this a worthy criticism? There are other things to criticize, slamming filmmakers/writers/actors being one. I can’t stand when people slam others who are trying to make a living. But this ain’t that. Among the readers, the criticisms are becoming too inflated. There’s a general sense of entitlement going on where everything a reader *thinks* needs to be said. It doesn’t. But I do respect your input, and Sean’s as well. I just think some battles should be picked.

It’s all good man. I’ve been a critic of Matt in the past too. And I’ve been a fan as well. You’re entitled to your opinion. I was just surprised that you were so offended by this issue.

      • http://thenonessentials.blogspot.com/ Sean Chandler

I’m not offended by the issue. The only reason I’m still posting is because I keep getting notices of responses.

I just made a remark because I see a great amount of irony in Matt write about, covering or reviewing things he hates when they have other writers. In an early edition of the Collision Goldberg admitted he was hired because of his ability to write snarky. In some cases I’m fine with that. However, when you consistently show contempt for the things which you’re covering, there is a sense in which you’re being condescending towards the people who are interested in the thing which you’re covering.

It’s actually pretty funny to me that of all my comments I’ve made on here, one quick comment I didn’t think much about has generated so much discussion. I wouldn’t have thought anymore about it if not for my initial comment being called sophomoric and eventually getting the ever pleasant Strong Enough to call me an idiot.

“there is a sense in which you’re being condescending towards the people who are interested in the thing which you’re covering.”

Well said. What you posted above was an eloquent explanation and has very good points. Had you put this as your initial post, I wouldn’t have called it sophomoric. In any case, it’s clear you aren’t an idiot. Have a great weekend.

      • http://thenonessentials.blogspot.com/ Sean Chandler

Haha. Well my initial comment was just meant as an attempt to be witty, and it probably was sophomoric. But I do have a deeper underlying frustration with Goldberg’s snark. Have a great weekend yourself.

I knew about those and thought it was stupid also. Just show the whole trailer. That’s enough of a teaser right there. A teaser for a teaser is lame. That’s like a chick promising to give you head and then licking the tip of your dick for a few seconds and then leaving.

probably my most anticipated film of phase II. I actually really, really liked the first one, but I can see how some people didn’t like the campiness of it all. • http://thenonessentials.blogspot.com/ Sean Chandler

I’m fairly confident he doesn’t actually get to choose what his character says or emotes. That comes from the scripts (which he doesn’t write) like most films. So if you don’t like the cinematic version of the character, it’s probably more the writers fault. And given his character is from the 40′s it’s not surprising he has more traditional values and beliefs.
