New Photo of Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier on the Set of CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

     June 9, 2013

We got our first look at Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  Our best look at both the character and his bionic arm comes in today’s new set photo.  In the comics, the Russians find Captain America’s sidekick Bucky Barnes (believed to be dead) missing his left arm and his memory.  They give Bucky a bionic arm and program him to be a badass assassin with the code name Winter Soldier—so you see why Marvel wants to feature the villain as soon as possible.

Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Georges St-Pierre, Frank Grillo, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Maximiliano HernándezRobert Redford, and Samuel L. Jackson also star.  Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens on April 4, 2014.  See the new set photo after the jump.

I can only hope that marvel finally make a memorable villain. All of the phase one villains bar loki have either been woeful or competant at best. And even Loki didn’t really feel threatening in the slightest.

I would include Loki in the garbage category. Is magneto marvel or fox? Although IM2 stunk, I thought whiplash was pretty good.

If this movie’s set in present time, why is Bucky still so young looking? Did the Russians, also give Bucky the same treatment that was given to Steve Rogers?

If they decide to follow the comics to a T, the Russians kept Bucky in cryostasis (on ice, just like Steve) until they needed him to complete a mission, then put him back under. Given that he’s got a kill streak normally associated with carpet bombing, he probably aged a couple of years during that time, I’d say five tops. He was also probably given some German (via Arnim Zola) or Russian prototype of the super-soldier serum (akin to the one used on Black Widow) to slow his aging. Hope that helped :)

If you remember in Captain America First Avenger Bucky was found by cap in a medical part of the camp were they were doing experiments on soldiers so he could have had something in him the whole time not knowing it

      • Ingrid

Yep, otherwise he would have never survived that rather nasty fall into that icy abyss…
