I don’t know much, but I am sure of one thing: after moviegoers watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4th, everyone is going to want another Captain America sequel with the same creative team behind the wheel. Thankfully, it seems like that is going to happen. About a month ago, we reported Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo were in early talks to return for Captain America 3. However, since that story broke, we’ve received no word on whether or not contracts had been signed. When I sat down earlier today with Marvel’s President of Production, Kevin Feige, to discuss The Winter Soldier, I asked him if the Russo brothers were definitely coming back to direct the third Captain America film, and he said they were.
With that confirmation, I then went to my interview with directors Joe and Anthony Russo and they also confirmed the news, adding,”We’re just in the formative stages of it right now. We just started breaking story with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and we’re just getting an idea of what we wanna do with it.” They added it’s hard to work on the story “before the movie even comes out because you want to see what people respond to.” Hit the jump for the full quote and video.
“Well now that Kevin [Feige] said it that means we can talk about it, I guess. That’s great. We’re just in the formative stages of it right now. We just started breaking story with [screenwriters Christopher] Markus and [Stephen] McFeely and we’re just getting an idea of what we wanna do with it. It’s crazy working on it before the movie even comes out because you want to see what people respond to in the movie. You want to get some inspiration from what people like about the film so you go, ‘Okay, this is what we gotta lean into in the next movie’ or ‘this is what we should move away from, this didn’t work so well.’ So we’re just in that phase of breaking story but waiting to see how people respond to the movie.”
