Who will you stand with when Captain America: Civil War begins, Team Iron Man or Team Captain America? Before you answer, would it change your position to know that whichever side you pick will yield a personalized message?
The Civil War marketing campaign has given you a new incentive to declare your allegiance. Clicking on either “Team Iron Man” or “Team Captain America” in the tweet below will post an “I stand with…” message to your account. From there, you may get a personalized message from one of the cast members.
Now, as any good reporter would do, we decided to test this out for ourselves. Anthony Mackie (a.k.a. Falcon) responded when I accepted Team Cap’s call to action, while the star-spangled Avenger himself, Chris Evans, thanked our own Allison Keene (Editor's Note from Allison: Tell me how I'm supposed to breathe with no air?)
Other actors who’ve been seen around the Twittersphere responding are Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Paul Bettany (Vision), and Stan “The Man” Lee. Although, not all of them are pleasant.
Not that I’m bias or anything, but Mackie has the best responses.
Captain America: Civil War sees the governments of the world uniting to pass the Sokovia Accords, which seeks to impose harsher restrictions on superhuman activity and a system of accountability for the Avengers. The action splits the team in two with some rallying around Cap and the others around Iron Man, all while The Winter Soldier re-emerges from the shadows. Boseman and Tom Holland make their debuts as Black Panther and Spider-Man before headlining their own films in the years ahead. A new set of character bios, found via Stitch Kingdom, sheds more light on their involvement.
T’Challa/Black Panther — T’Challa’s father, T’Chaka, the King of Wakanda, joins the ranks of those who support government regulation after innocent citizens are collateral damage from an Avengers’ mission. But when events turn ugly, T’Challa must reveal himself as Black Panther and follow his own path. With his own agenda driving him, Black Panther aligns with Iron Man to achieve his own deeply personal goal..
Peter Parker/Spider-Man — Recruited personally by Tony Stark, teenager Peter Parker aka Spider-Man brings his youthful energy and exceptional — though not totally mastered — skills to Iron Man’s team.
Captain America: Civil War debuts in theaters on May 6.
