We’re now merely weeks away from the release of Captain America: Civil War, and with glowing reviews flooding in, anticipation is only growing more intense—which is why a batch of new images should help appease some of that eagerness. Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo return to helm Civil War, which marks one of Marvel Studios’ most ambitious efforts yet—and that’s saying something. The film features an absolutely packed ensemble of pretty much every Marvel character save for Hulk and Thor, but on top of that has to work as a standalone Captain America story and convincingly set up warring factions inside the Avengers.
That’s quite a feat, but judging by the early reviews, the Russos have pulled it off, and these new images give us some excellent shots of the entire ensemble as well as a first look at the film’s primary antagonist, Helmut Zemo, played by Daniel Brühl. The Rush actor’s character has been shrouded in secrecy for some time now, and remains very much under wraps, but while the Russos admit he’s a pretty significant variation on the comics character of Baron Zemo, “he’s still similar to what you know of Zemo, a revenge character.”
Elsewhere, we also get a new look at Chadwick Boseman out of costume as Black Panther, a character that acts as somewhat of a neutral entity in the titular Civil War, at least for a portion of the film.
So curb your anticipation by perusing the new images below, via EW, and if you missed the Collider Movie Talk crew’s extensive, spoiler-free interview with the Russo Brothers, click here. Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters on May 6th.
