First Images of Chris Evans as CAPTAIN AMERICA

by     Posted 4 years, 143 days ago

There’s been a great deal of discussion online about how Marvel would depict Captain America in Captain America: The First Avenger.  As we all know, a costume in a comic book doesn’t necessarily translate into a costume in a movie.  AICN has landed what appears to be pretty-damn-official-looking artwork of Chris Evans in his Captain America outfit.  I would check these out soon because if they are official, then Marvel’s going to want them taken down ASAP.  Personally, I would say that with the exception of the helmet-mask, the costume looks pretty damn sweet.  It’s also interesting to note that in one of the images, the costume has a holster.  Is Cap packin’ heat in the movie?

Hit the jump to check out the images.  Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters on July 22, 2011.

For those who don’t know, the film is being directed by Joe Johnston (The Wolfman) and co-stars Sebastian Stan (Gossip Girl) as sidekick Bucky Barnes, Haylee Atwell (The Duchess) as love-interest Peggy Carter, Tommy Lee Jones as possibly General Chester Phillips, Hugo Weaving as the villain Red Skull, and Toby Jones (W.) as fellow baddie Arnim Zola.

Looks goofy lol. Hopefully it looks a bit better on film.

      hi

  • Whatever

    Penisman!

  • JG

I think Captain America's arch nemesis should be…Tom of Finland! “First we will wax you down – THEN I WILL SHOW YOU WHAT THAT “A” REALLY STANDS FOR!”

  • mickcuttle

this film will be live action right? why are these images computerised?

  • http://ciclotimia.blogspot.com/ [A]

    I like it.

  • Captain Britain

Looks FANTASTIC!!!! Only 2 very minor gripes, I like the little medal/wings on the sides of the head in the comics. The A on the head would be better as a sprayed on military type FONT. with a bit of wear n tear.

But great costume, and clever how the red belly stripes have been incorporated into straps. I was wondering how theyd get over that hurdle of a stripy belly flag design. This looks perfect and will fit in great with Iron-Man.

  • ELPOMP

costume doesn't look good, Looks to corny for live action. It works in a comic book but I think people want more realism something more believable.

  • ELPOMP

should get rid of the blue maybe not as light and get rid of the giant A on the forehead not good for a movie

  • CursedBob

Yeah, I think it looks kind of goofy too, but maybe the real thing will look better when it is in motion. I didn't really like the still pictures of the new batsuit for the “Dark Knight,” but in the movie it looked good. The Captain America costume in the comics is pretty ostentatious (I mean that in a good way), so trying to make it even remotely real or practical is going to have it's troubles. Frankly, I miss the little eagle wings on the side of the head. But, those are the changes that must be made for an adaptation, just imagine if Jackman had run around in bright yellow spandex and that mask for the X-men movies or if they used the comic book Galactus in Fantastic Four 2. Actually, that last one would have be cool.

  • mike

Looks cool! This must be his modern day costume for the avengers movie. The WWII suit would be more gritty and have the original v-shaped shield.

  • guest

    Real Americans wear blue jeans!

  • Fdsalkjfslkj

this would be 10 times better if it was just simplified. For example his pants, could do without the shitty hexagons on his knees and quads. just make them blue military issue cargo pants. It just doesnt make much sense if this is his WWII outfit. i understand if this would be his costume for when he gets brought back in modern times and they decide to update it. like in the ultimates. I'm going to remain optimistic and say that this is his modern day costume and his WWII military garb are more in line with the times and strategical.

It needs headwings. As stupid as they might seem, his head seems like the wrong shape without something jutting off the side to break up the oval shape.

  • MrRich316

the armor( riot gear ) is pretty modern looking, but, these do help sell Chris Evans being able to ditch the Johnny Storm look. And yes just like early Batman, Cap used a gun. The new Cap (the original Bucky) still uses one. I hope they do have a more period looking uniform for Cap during the WW2 scenes.( I don't buy the entire movie will be a period piece, although a Saving Private Ryan (Sgt. Fury?) type flick might be cool).

it's so “beep” awesome that costume! :D

  • http://twitter.com/VerasGunn Justin Brogan

My one major problem with the outfit is the helmet. It's too close flush to the head. If it had more weight to it then it would seem more natural. The side and back aren't bad, but when it gets to the eyes it just looks like another mask.

Still, the rest of the appearance isn't bad. I wouldn't think the wings would work well in a modern live-action setting. A more Ultimates inspired costume works better as a more believable outfit. I would have expected a different looking shield from what we saw in Iron man 2 though.

It's alright I guess… pretty predictable they're going for the “toughed up” style, with a more “military” look or something, rather than just a tight thin suit.
They should have added some kind of wing-design on his head though.
Doesn't have to be like silly tiny wings, but perhaps something streamlines into the helmet with white details so it would represent the wings, you know.

I think I dislike the vertical straps the most…
But I guess they're there for something… looking all “functional” or whatever.
Kind of gives me a “Dark Knight”-idea… I mean… that suit is awesome, but it's a bit far off from Batman-looking… again too “military” or “modernized”.
Understandable about the changes and evolving and stuff, but… just… too much…

  • Nunegro

I like the concept. It looks a bit funky though. The Helmet reminds me of the 40's helmet minus wings but with him holding the Modern-day shield it looks off somehow. I like how they tried to keep the infamous scaling in the shoulder area(even though I never liked that), and ditched the wings in the helmet, but the “A” has to go unless that is part of his USO uniform. Hopefully when it is made it comes off a bit darker. it still seems to “light of a color blue overall and would rather see black gloves and boots over brown . So is this his WW2 “put-together” uniform or his modern-day counterpart? That is throwing me. Looking forward to next year more…

  • WTFmate

No way in hell does this look like something made in 1941. Unless he's a time traveler now, I dunno how this is our WW2 look.

  • Dragon_grandestin

There is something completely off with the costume. It is too modernized for the time setting, and it is missing the wing design. I hope it looks awesome in the movie.

no wings? Nah… that cant be Cap…

  • ummmm…

I just can't take Chris Evans seriously as Cap. That's why the whole costume looks goofy to me.

  • uselesswarrior

It looks really close to the Ultimates version of Cap which I think is a good thing. The helmet is done pretty good. Overall a good job of translating the costume.

  • CraigC

Costume looks stupid without the head wings.

He's not wearing a gun holster. I only see pouches…?

  • Rex2099

Ok…the look is good but for the WW II i expected a more military uniforme than this hich tech one

  • apstorm

Still a bit confused why they're using the same actor for Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers…

  • http://twitter.com/rctrovao Rafael Trovão

pretty cool! great transition from comics to screen! well done!

  • Justinalick

I say he looks like a camped up electrician.

  • Vashxsk8erx

Costume looks awesome! I don't know what you are all complaining about but for a live action film it looks great and these are not live action photos obviously, def photo shop painted, and i'm pretty sure this is the costume for modern day cap not when hes in ww2, so to the person who said he looks to modern its because it is…

  • Pablotll

I soooo disagree with the Human Torch being Cap as well. With so many good actors out there, shouldn't someone else get the chance to be a superhero?

  • Metalkorean

    He looks like a turtle.

  • Namor the Sub-mariner

    I love it!!!

  • Kaziel

you all have too remember this is going too be set as a WWII captain america. before and after he gets the serum. not leading too the present

  • Eddeebee

Doing a Cap movie in WW II is not going to work. It wont make sense cause how is it that Tony Stark has his shield in his workshop? Unless they are gonna freeze Cap and revive him in the present it doesnt seem like that idea will even work.

But the costume looks pretty good in any era and it also looks official too.

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers is a bad choice. I would pick Ryan Phillippe myself cause he looks more like him and seems to be more like that kind of character.

If not Ryan then Michael Vogel from Cloverfield- I think I have his name wrong- the blonde guy..

I am disappointed. Take a look at the design i did quite awhile ago, i think it makes a little more sense… http://www.deviantart.com/download/166383608/Ca… (LARGE PICTURE)

This is how i envision it….

    - Custom helmet, WITH wings (i was imagining metal wings, maybe chrome) and a painted and worn “A” on the front (think the spades on the helmets of the 101st in Band of Brothers, probably with the same texture as those helmets too), and a dark blue ski mask underneath.
    - Modified military style vest with stripes sewn in and maybe the star on the front looking a little worn, maybe even painted on the vest, with the classic Cap blue chainmail uniform underneath with white cloth arms and cloth stripes around torso. Also some modern (not future) looking armor on the shoulders as well as a backplate inside the vest. This way you have a battle ready Cap, and without the vest you have a fairly classic cap.
    - Standard Military Pants in solid blue. (I'm thinking a muted blue, slightly dark maybe)
    - RED (like a regular ass red) classic Cap gloves and boots (boots would basically be red military boots with the overhang at the top.
    - Guns. Not really necessary, I just thought it kinda makes sense that Cap would have an M16 (sometimes) and a pistol strapped to his leg, being the super SOLDIER and all. (i don't think cap is bulletproof is he? He should probably have something for taking care of groups of armed enemies quickly) I also imagine he would be damn good with them. Plus all kinds of magazines and grenades and knives in his vest pockets.
    - Classic Shield (duh)

Maybe it's just me cause i did it, but my design seems to make total sense, and the one above well…doesn't…at all. Everything is for show and has no function. Mine allows for unlimited joint motion. Just look at those shoulders on this one….imagine how that is gonna look when he bends his arms (hint: just like Batman used to look trying to turn his head) Cap is a soldier, so why would you not use that as an inspiration for his look? Also, in my opinion, Cap without the wings just kinda looks like some wannabe superhero. Not just here, but when he doesn't have them in the comics too. But, i guess this is how it's gonna be so hopefully it doesn't look that bad on film, but i won't be able to get over the lack of wings.

  • Migs_lionhart

It looks pretty much updated like that of the Batsuit in TDK.
I'm not a Huge Fan of Cap but I'm diggin these concept (or are they official?) artwork.

  • http://twitter.com/o6untouchable Jason Atkins

Doesn't look fantastically World War II to me. The boots maybe; but the rest of it looks too much like modern biker gear to fit in. I hope this is artwork for his Avengers / 2012 costume, not his The First Avenger costume…

  • Rebl1969

its concept art….the real thing might catch you while he's doing his super soldier thing.

  • opencurtin

This Uniform should be US army standard kit, watch out bin laden.

  • Ediaz777

I like the costume, but I too think they should somehow incorporate the traditional wings on the the sides of the head piece. If I'm not mistaken, the character is brought back many years after being frozen in ice. Maybe this would be the costume he wheres after he is “defrosted”, -and we will get to see a more original version of the costume.

  • http://twitter.com/PeachCans Ally Stewart

It's just concept art at this point :)

  • JD

    LOSE THE SHIELD!!

  • archraymund

looks like cloth from superman returns costume and batman's utility belt. they should have stuck with the adage 'less is more'. personally, i think the costume has too many parts hence the goofy look. i doubt cap can move freely with all these junk around his body.

  • THE SOUR1

i am 1 of capt americas biggest fans, and i like the costume . If u r one of the people that do not like the costume, then u know nothing about movies, or the awsomeness of the star spangled avenger. the costume looks good 4 live action and fits well in the marvel universe. looks like caps ultimate avengers costume. classic cap (yet iconic) wouldn't translate well on film.

  • M1160

    This just is friggin' stupid.
After so many successes with Marvel Adaps.?
    They go with this director?
    This actor?
    These shots?
You've got to be kidding me!

    Good old Hollywood again.
Few successes with outside the box thinking,
then they screw it all up. All for the almighty dollar.

I totally miss the wings in the helmet. Otherwise pretty cool. I gotta say, even though I like it, the costume itself (aside from the helmet) looks way too modern. The seams, stitches, etc. No way did they design costumes like this back in the 40's.

This rendition of Cap in GREAT. It pays homage to the Ultimates version of Cap and The Animated features….It's REAL tricky to get Cap right!! ?Remember how Matt Salinger looked in the 1990 movie??
Plus his suit pays homage to the US military especially the ARMY/Special Forces/ AirBorne divisions. Let's keep in mind though Cap is a Super-hero he's also a Super-SOLDIER!!
