A batch of new images from Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger have been released. A couple of them we’ve seen in the trailer, but some of them are brand new. The more I see of this project, the more excited I get. Hopefully everything comes together and Marvel goes out with a bang before next summer’s The Avengers. Directed by Joe Johnston, the film stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Stanley Tucci, Tommy Lee Jones, and Hugo Weaving. Hit the jump to check out the images. Captain America: The First Avenger opens in 3D on July 22, 2011.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel and Louis D’Esposito will executive produce. The film will be released in the US on July 22, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.

Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment… Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the Super-Solider Serum and bombarded by “vita-rays.” Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and as leader of the Avengers.

PLEASE don’t let this movie suck!

    Hugo Weaving looks AMAZING!!!!

    • Marco Polo

Does no one see that the guy in blue with the sniper rifle is the 60s-70s comic version of Sgt Fury? C’mon he’s got the three-day stubble going, the cowlick on his forehead…shove a half chewed cigar in his mouth and viola! Nick Fury! I think I saw the cast credits list him as Sgt. Buck. Watch the clip as Cap and the Howling Commandos bust down the door with Tommy guns blazing. It’s him I tell you.

      • Nick Hart

you’re an idiot. that’s bucky. samuel jackson is in this movie, playing nick fury.

      • Marco Polo

No you nimrod, he is the embodiment of the original Nick Fury. “Bucky” Barnes (why would they call him Sgt. Buck?) was a kid of 13 or so when Steve Rogers befriended him…again I speak of the comics here, killjoy. The old guard, like me, want to see the true Fury lead the gang into battle, so the film threw us a bone by introducing the new Bucky with Nick Fury’s zeal and spirit. Now before you start throwing any more hate with any racist back-talk, I really enjoy Samuel L. in the new characterization. So, my little friend, do you now understand what it means when the grown-ups talk?

  • Skeletors mate

Looks promising, especially the snowy scene. Red Skull looks great, but, he looks like Skeletor from Masters of the Universe fell asleep in a Tan bed.

Always wondered how Skeletor looked after he fell down that chasm.

Hope Cap A, is the best Marvel film yet, Thor was fun but i was dissapointed. Green Lantern looks like snot, and IronMan 2 was forgettable junk. Cap A, has potential with his WWII roots to be great.

    • Hoots

FYI Lantern is DC Comics so it need not be included in marvel movies. Thor was good and First Class was absolutely phenomenal so i got high hopes for the next installment in Marvel Movies

      • Dan

Im going to see Lantern right now, Im a marvel fan, but do like DC for Flash, Batman, and Superman, ….is GL really that terrible?

I hope that synopsis is wrong. The Great Depression started with the stock market crash on October 29, 1929. Even if Steve Rogers had been born the day after the crash, he would have been just over 12 years old when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and just shy of 16 on VJ day, August 15, 1945. Being weak and frail wouldn’t be the only reason he would have been rejected by the Army. I’m sure it meant to say “grew up” rather than “born.”

    • Dannyboy3030

Steve Rogers was born July 4, 1917

  • jacobbunney

after seeing that pic of Hugo I’m glad I call my penis the Red Skull

  • sam

looks a bit like voldemort fell asleep in the sun.

    hope it’s good!

  • Nick

these are great images but lets not call them new when most of them come from the trailer?
    this movie better be good.

  • Lance

This looks like it’s going to be so much better than Green Lantern!

I’m hoping this turns out to be like one of the best episodes of Band of Brothers or The Pacific.

With the Captain that is, after all war is hell and I sure hope they don’t dumb it down the same way G.I. Joe did in order to make the kids think “cool!”.

By the way, what parent in their sane mind would buy a Nazi Red Skull action figure for a kid?

Maybe I’m overthinking too much, just please don’t suck the same way as Green Lantern.

“I’m hoping this turns out to be like one of the best episodes of Band of Brothers or The Pacific.”
This is a comicbook movie. BoB was a war enactment series, that had dark tone and motifs.

Except for Batman movies none of the superhero movies had dark flavour, thus they all sucked except Batmans.

      • Marco Polo

Blade I, Blade II, Blade III were fairly dark.

      • Marco Polo

Oh and Hellboy, and its sequel was especially dark.

    • bronx

“By the way, what parent in their sane mind would buy a Nazi Red Skull action figure for a kid?”
Someone mentioned Voldemort up there, and no kids/parants buy Voldemort masks or figurines right?

      • Carmichael

Red Skull costume is perfect for Halloween. I don’t mind a Nazi action figure, i think Hellboy did it a few years ago and a friend of mine buy the entire series for his 8 year old son.

I hope they sell the Dum Dum Dugan mustache.
