CAPTAIN AMERICA Lead Offered to Chris Evans

Finally, something resembling forward motion in the casting for the lead of The First Avenger: Captain America.  Mere hours ago we heard wind of another iteration of the shortlist which featured Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four), and relative unknown Sebastian Stan (Gossip Girl) as the most serious contenders for the role.  Now Heat Vision reports that an offer has been extended to Chris Evans, who seems to be the most popular name among those tossed about.  As super soldier Steve Rogers is the role of a lifetime, Evans will of course accept posthaste . . . right?

Well, perhaps not; find out why after the jump.

The deal is to star in for up to three Captain America films in addition to a lead role in the Avengers franchise, not to mention possible cameos in individual films of other Marvel superheroes.  Marvel Studios and director Joe Johnston are looking to get The First Avenger in front of cameras this summer, which unfortunately conflicts with the shoot of What’s Your Number?, a romantic comedy which Evans committed to headlining alongside Anna Faris.

As great as it would be to see Evans on screen with Faris (love her!), I think his brand of swagger is better fit to fill out the red, white, and blue tights.  So, I hope Number doesn’t cause too much of a dilemma.  I’m sure we’ll hear soon either way, and you’ll hear very soon after that.

out of these three, I'd definitely go with Evans.

Evans is the only one that has been mentioned to be in the running that I think could stand side by side with RDJ and Norton and not get blown out of the water.

As far as acting ability, yes… but I'm not sure any of them are solid choices, Tatum looks the part but his acting hasn't been very good, and his voice doesn't work to well either. Who knows.

Bollocks! They couldn't get any one else that has more bravura and commands attention than these twerps? LOL! At first glance this is going to be a disaster. RDJ is going to be the megawatt power out of all of these guys. No one can even come close. They should seriously get someone else with more of a screen and acting presence.

yea i hope evans takes it. he could easily drop the romcom and role go to someone else. i would think cap would be the better pick to go with.

YES! He'll do a great job. If you guys think that he can't lead, check him out in STREET KINGS, he went toe toe with gangsters.

Love it! like the other marvel castings, not the obvious choice because of the character type he usually portrays but hope this sticks he's been great in everything especially sunshine

Got past Johnny Storm not being blond, but Steve Rogers definitely has to be blond. Hope Evans looks good with the golden locks. I think he will be able to convey the transformation from the naive, young, frail Steve Rogers to the experienced, battle hardened, natural born leader Captain America. He has the most chops of all the actors to go toe to toe with the other Marvel leads and I think it will be interesting to see him take command of the other Avengers. I think this is a good casting choice. Can't wait to see a properly done Cap flick.

Was really hoping they would be a bit more daring and go with Jon Hamm. Far more interesting choice.

    That's great news!

If he is unable or declines I hope the role goes to Ryan Phillippe. I've been thinking a lot about this (I'm obsessed I guess) and I really think Phillippe would be best for the role. But Evans would be great so I won't complain if he gets it. :)

I'm a quasi-fan of Cris Evan's work. He was beyond great in Sunshine, but I am not buying him as Cap. I don't see him telling Robert Downey Jr.'s Stark or even Chris Hemsworth's Thor what to do. Hell even Ultimate Nick Fury would laugh at him…

Matthew Goode should have been offered the role. Bulk him up and boy you would have had a CA for the ages. The british have it when it come to actors and a talented Brit would own the CA role. At the time of this comment Chris Evans was cast to play CA. Well we'll see eventually won't we how it turns out. My pick before thinking of Goode was john Cena. He has the looks, the build and the presence,IMHO to play CA.
