With the release of Captain America: The First Avenger just over a week away, we’re doing our best to consolidate some recent happenings regarding the pic into one place. After the jump, you’ll find a new clip from the film as well as every image Paramount has released from it thus far. While a number of the images have been released previously, you’ll also find plenty of new shots included in the batch. You’ll also find information regarding possible (stress on the “possible”) early screenings of the film at next week’s San Diego Comic-Con.
Directed by Joe Johnston (The Wolfman), Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Hayley Atwell, Stanley Tucci, Natalie Dormer, Sebastian Stan, and Dominic Cooper. The film hits theaters on July 22nd.
As for patrons of next week’s San Diego Comic-Con getting a chance to check out Captain America: The First Avenger early, an unconfirmed report has made its way from the San Diego 6 twitter page claiming that:
Captain America is slated to open one day early for Comic Con diehards. Thur 21st, UA Horton Plaza 14. Screenings all day. #sdcc
Shortly thereafter, the above tweet was removed with this in its place:
You heard it here first. Captain America will open at the con one day early to the public! Stay tuned for details. #sdcc #CaptainAmerica
Although it seems like the exact details of the screenings may be a little sketchy at this point, I would be surprised if the film didn’t have some sort of early screening in San Diego. Of course, we’ll update as soon as some sort of confirmation hits.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel and Louis D’Esposito will executive produce. The film will be released in the US on July 22, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.
Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment… Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the Super-Solider Serum and bombarded by “vita-rays.” Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and as leader of the Avengers.
