In obvious news, Marvel has apparently commissioned a script for a sequel to Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus, the scribes behind First Avenger, have been tapped to start work on a sequel script. The film would take place in present day, presumably after the events of The Avengers and most likely Iron Man 3 (for which Marvel is currently on the director hunt). The marketing push for Captain America recently got underway with the poster reveal, and our first look at footage from the film during its Super Bowl TV spot.
Latino Review‘s report has no further information, but given that Marvel wants to be quick to move following Captain America’s all but guaranteed success, it make sense that they’re getting a head start on the sequel. Marvel’s “same-universe” release slate currently looks like this: Thor on May 6th, Captain America: The First Avenger on July 22nd, The Avengers on May 4th, 2012 and Iron Man 3 on May 3rd, 2013. And if you haven’t seen the “re-tooled” trailer for Captain America yet, do yourself a favor and click here.

sounds great!
Not saying The First Avenger is going to be bad but wouldn’t it be better if they comissioned the script after the film proves itself to be a commercial success?
Makes me wonder what if they had already written Wolverine: Origins 2 before that first monstrosity had been released.
Maybe. But it’s also good to have a head start.
