For those who aren’t familiar with the Captain America comics, the Winter Soldier is a popular character created by writer Ed Brubaker. Brubaker took Cap’s long-dead sidekick Bucky Barnes, said he was actually in cold-storage, and then programmed by the Russians to be an assassin. The Winter Soldier (played by Sebastian Stan) is a popular character, so it’s not too surprising that Marvel decided to make him the focal point of the upcoming Captain America sequel. A piece of concept art showed that directors Joe and Anthony Russo were sticking close to the design from the comics, and now the first set photos have followed-up on that design complete with long hair and bionic-arm. While I’m sure any exterior filming will keep leaking these minor shots of the character, I assume that if Marvel is going to Comic-Con this year, they’ll bring the first official look at The Winter Soldier.

The film stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Georges St-Pierre, Frank Grillo, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Maximiliano Hernández, Robert Redford, and Samuel L. Jackson. Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens on April 4, 2014.
